the rare bat right throw left, plus the guy looks like a monster in CF therefore has to be my favorite pick of this draft.

Mets apparently absolutely love his personality etc and think he has major value to the organization. Potential future coach one day.

Are we sure he wasn't drafted directly into the coaching ranks? His baseball abilities appear to be questionable.

Well they took Tucker Tharp 30th round a few years back and I heard similar things with him as well. I guess there are certain guys they value just having around, mature, works hard, professional. In general I'm not for "punting" picks but if once in a while you take a guy you feel will be good around other young players I guess I get it.

Look, its round 22. How likely are you to find a star or even a part-time player. If you pick someone with one great skill (defense) who is a positive influence among those who play with him, can't hurt.

If you read his amazin ave writeup, there's some reason why they took Tharp, at least in round 30. He has both speed and strength so there's a chance he could stick in CF and have some pop in his bat. Question was more around his hit tool, which was weak his first 3 years but better as a senior when he hit .312 with 6 homers. not great, but, per Alex Nelson, good enough to get drafted.

I think his good work ethic was a plus, but I don't think they punted the pick, at least, based on Alex's writeup.

I think someone already said he was green, but to confirm:

The New York Mets have agreed to terms with outfielder Ian Strom, a UMass Lowell junior.

Those last 2 catches in that video are just WOW. The final one, I have no idea how he got there. That ball looked impossible to get too.

Start at about 2:10 for the best part. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jP39N63hLjs Same video already posted, but wow, I'm just, wow. It's all I've got. I just viewed it now.

Amazin Ave calls him a defensive wizard. I think that's fair. http://www.amazinavenue.com/2016/7/13/1 ... -ian-strom

Did he just use the Force to keep that ball in the air an extra beat or two?

.230 playing for UMASS Lowell translates to what on the MLB level? It's great that he is a defensive wizard but if this can't hit his own weight what future does he have in MLB? It will be interesting to see his batting averages in the minors over the next few years.
