A new labor agreement is in place, Walker and Ces are officially back, and we are nearing 4/5ths of the way towards the board top-50 prospects.... Figure its a hell of a time for the first post regarding the upcoming draft!!!!!!!!

I hope I am not jumping the gun here, but the Mets kept their big guns while protecting their first and second round selections, which is just about a perfect blend in my eyes. While I won't really jump into grading the amateurs I like until college games are plastered across ESPN3, it looks like this years draft is about premium HS athletes and safer college arms.

I do know that my early going favorite/realistic pick for where we will be drafting is this guy....

http://www.perfectgame.org/Players/Play ... ?ID=337332

Ranked number 19 in the HS class so far by BA, so he should be able to continue to improve and still have some wiggle room to not blow past our selection slot. When all is said and done he might compare very favorably with Brendan Rodgers, but with potentially better wheels on the bases and more explosive range in the dirt.

With the Rockies & Cards signing QO players, our #22 pick is now #20. I think it'll slide to 18 or 19 when the QO players are signed, maybe 17. Giants might sign one, maybe the Tigers and Mariners/Marins, maybe? The Yanks have signed 2 key free agents so far, neither a QO guy. I don't think they will.

Looks like Luis Guillorme has a little brother (or cousin?)

2017 HS draft class and a SS. http://www.perfectgame.org/players/play ... ?ID=389517

That would be a feel-good pick if the mets drafted him. No idea where he ranks.

Luis confirmed to me on Twitter that it's his little brother.

Mark Vientos is a very interesting 3B prospect.

Big kid at 6'4 and will still be only 17 years old next June.

But he could go the Drew Mendoza-route and ask for a massive bonus expecting to be a Miami Hurricane anyway.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

Quentin Holmes (#33 on MLB.com's top 50 draft prospects) is from Queens... make it happen! http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017/?list=draft #Mets

I personally would rank him a little higher than that.

Nick Storz is also a local kid who I like as a pitcher.

Pure burner and seems like a solid young man in one interview I saw. I'm a little scared off by the rawness of NY hitters though. Pitchers are one thing, cause of the extra projection and fresher arms, but the hitters just seem to be in so far behind.

SS Joseph Encarnacion NYC

Nice little article at Perfect Game on a guy to keep tabs on. Unless he has done absolute work for the Latin Scouts, checks a lot of boxes as a value pick, especially as a local kid. Bonus points to the potentially overbearing Pops that really wants to get his son paid (pretty much the same as the Puerto Rico HS prospects). Nothin like being able to get upside HS talent for slot or under.

Not earth shattering news but we pic, #20 and #59 on day one. #97, etc, on day two. Numbers are final with all QOs accounted for.

They come in #24 in total money, $5,916,100.
