Draft cap question. If Mets don't sign Peterson can they use that 2.9 mil on Eder, Van Eyk, Labas, etc.? Then get an extra #1 next year.

No. You'd have to deduct the 2.9 from the amount allowed to spend for the entire draft.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

As stated, no, and they lose the 5% they can safely go over on his nearly 3 million, but they would get the #21 pick next year. It wouldn't be a huge loss.

That said, I'm quite sure they'll sign him.

Amazingly, we're only 11 days from the signing deadline.

I guess it's 9 days now, but I'm sure they're not done. Remember the flurry at the end of last year. Kay's injury and the surprise Planck signing. Just working out some details.

Should we be a tad nervous with some of the non-Peterson guys not signing?

Obs some of the HS guys aren't signing like Labas and the 19th round guy, but Hutch and 11th rounder?

Schneider I heard is likely. Hutch and whoever else is likely waiting on how much money they save on Peterson. Hutch said two days ago he was negotiating with the Mets.

So basically get Peterson signed, and then try to sign Taylor. Is Huffman going to sign?
