Even coming in with low expectations today was just dead.

Gotta assume/hope they saved a good amount of money in those last five rounds. Extra money to get Vientos signed and hopefully sign an intriguing HS pick from tomorrow

Some basic math.

If you like 1 guy for 10 K and another guy for 200 K. If you take the 200K guy round 10 and the 10 K round 11, you're 70 K over budget.

If you sign the 10K guy round 10 and the 200K guy round 11, you're 20K under budget. You add 90K to your spending pool by just switching the order of those 2 picks. Same guys picked, but 90K more spending money by taking the 200K guy round 11 instead of round 10.

What the mets did was smart. Yes, it's boring, but it gives them more money to spend tomorrow. If there's a deep draft with a fair bit of HS talent remaining, this was a good strategy.

We also need to wait and see what guys sign for, how much over Mark Vientos gets. If Vientos asks for 2 million, the mets might have needed to blow those 5 rounds just to keep Vientos. Either way, this is a strategy. It's not automatically bad.

2 college OFers look very interesting (assuming Winaker can handle RF), and the righty from Kennesaw looks interesting too. And then a bunch of RP possibilities. About as much as you can ask for in this stage. And yesterday was a bonus, so not a whole lot to complain about. Let's see if they make an aggressive move early tmrw. There are a few very interesting preps on the board.

I like this pick. Good get for a 10th round senior.

I have a really bad feeling that having to unexpectedly pay Jay Bruce's salary this year might mean no tough signs for the draft. Get use to the senior college guys for the next 30 rounds.
