I don't really get that logic. You evaluate every player the same way. You can still like the pick and count age as a negative (or a reason he's around this late).

Sometimes, the conventional wisdom (hard throwers are better, young HS is better, upside is better) can be taken so far that you actually do better going against the common wisdom. For an 11th round pick with good tools, I don't think it matters that he's 19.5. The bigger negative, bigger than his age, is that he hit .278 against guys a year or two younger than him. That needs some work.

It still matters. It always matters.

However, when the pick is later you are more willing to take on greater risks/flaws, as the expected value is now lower.

Fair enough. Instead of saying "It's not relevant" or, however I phrased it, I should have said "it doesn't matter to me - cause I like his tools", or something to that effect. Big question is can he learn to hit or will he hit like Brad Marquez, who had more strikeouts than ABs one year I think.

and, I've always loved a good underdog story. Go Mets (2018).

I mean does age really matter here, especially in the blurb says he's rather inexperienced and really didn't have the high level coaching? He's super raw and coming out of HS at that...I'm guessing he barely played baseball growing up until recently...i like the pick in that sense...it most likely won't work out but he's a kid that you can mold easier and he seems to take well to what needs to be done to get better

You could make the case it matters even more in that case. He's already 19.5 and isn't even as polished as your typical 18 year old pick. He has less time to catch up.

Love the pick, tooled up to the hilt with no risk outside of the bonus pool rounds. Shouldnt blow up the remaining money if he signs, and they might be talking to our more polished HS picks fitst. I'll throw a jake Marisnick comp on him.

Not all prospects need to reach the majors before 26-27.

Not saying he is one of them, but age can be relevant but not everything.

From the kid's mouth:

"I was a little shocked it was (as early as) the 11th round -- but it was a good shock," Schneider said. "I can't really explain what it felt like when I received the news, but it was just a very good feeling."

and his HS coach:

"He's probably the most gifted athlete I've not only ever coached, but I've ever seen," DCHS head coach Brandon Dennis said of Schneider. "I know he put up unbelievable numbers on the showcase circuit -- just off-the-chart type numbers for throwing and running. Plus, he's got a lot of pop in his bat."

His coach claims he might go to school (I'm not buying it)

Not to be snarky, but with vast physical differences and admittedly different tools, what then becomes the basis for a comparison?

Odd combination skill-set...that's the basis. Arm-speed in this case.
