CF Jarred Kelenic
L/L, HS, 7/16/99
Waukesha West HS (WI)
6'1" 196 lbs

I know this is Tej's thing but he isn't on at the moment. Callis thew a "more athletic Mark Kotsay" comparison on Jarred. Thinks he can stay in Center.

Hopefully he and Vientos can blossom into premier hitting prospects.

I would hope for someone better than Kotsay.

You might want him to burn brighter, but you'll take the 17 year career.

Exactly Kotsay wasn't a bad player

Kiley said it was the "baseball people" in the Mets draft room who wanted Kelenic all along. Very tough to argue with this pick in light of the 5 college players who went off the board ahead of him.

6. Mets Jarred Kelenic, OF. One of most well-rounded HS players in this class. Kelenic may not have a 70 on his card, but a whole lot of 55s and 60s.

He needs to be better than Kotsay

Kotsay had only a couple of good years

With the 6th pick in the draft, you need to get someone with franchise changing upside ... you need a homerun with this pick.

I'm not sure what we got here

Where would you guys slot him in the Mets top 10?

I have him 7th behind Gimenez, Alonso, Peterson, Vientos, Szapucki and McNeil (I think he deserves jumping way up on the overall list with what he has done, regardless of prior opinion, age, ceiling, etc. He has just been too good to put behind anyone else IMO) and ahead of Kay and Dunn. 10th spot could be one a whole bunch of guys. Humphreys? Mauricio? Cecchini?

Know nothing about this kid. But his swing looks awesome in his draft profile video and he looks athletic as heck. Maybe the next Yelich? Brian Giles? Nimmo? 8)

Do the scouting reports sound very similar to Mickey Moniak a few years ago?
