12. Mets – Zack Thompson, LHP, Kentucky
Thompson has been mentioned here the most. A decision maker was in to see Elon RHP George Kirby shove last weekend. Most expect a college pitcher to be the pick.

This is the latest mock up on FG. Yeah, I think it's going to be either Thompson, Kirby or Rutledge.

BA's latest mock has us taking Rutledge.

Thompson has a scary medical history.

He was born to be a Met.

Of all the college pitchers that have been linked to the Mets. Kirby is clearly the best of them. Not really a fan of Thompson or Rutledge. I think Kirby can be a legit #3 if not better in the majors. His fastball is really good and has command of it on both sides of the plate. His secondary stuff is average at best now but I think the PD staff can help him make it at least a consistent averge pitch.

I think Will Wilson is the college position player that slips past 15 that teams will end up regretting having passed.

Hoping the draft talk revs up with conference tourneys around the corner and mocks starting to pile up!!!

As of right now, my thoughts on our picks is this, do not, DO not, DO NOT get sucked into first round arms!!! No hurler is without questions, and trying to force such a fix for this system inefficiency could just compound issues.

If Langeliers is there, JUMP it. And I feel like NOBODY is talking about Brady McConnell.... getting two potential up the middle studs with some track record with your top 2 picks (especially without a top-5 selection, or additonal comp picks) would be huge.

Sucked into? What does this mean? Are any players without questions, esp at 12? Come on.

Meaning that everyone knows we have to get arms into this system, and double that for college ones that might help before whatever window this team supposedly has closes.... but I think these are late first round arms, at best.

They have arms on the way but no position players, so I would be concerned that they would draft for supposed need (bats). So i see it kind of the opposite.

From Mike Axisa at CBS Sports, whoever he is. Is this all the Mets can get with the 12th pick...a back end starter?

Pick: LHP Zack Thompson, Kentucky

Word on the street is the Mets, under agent-turned-GM Brodie Van Wagenen, are looking college more than high school. Manoah or Stott would be the ideal get here. The best four-year college player still on the board at this point is Thompson, a four-pitch southpaw who looks like a good bet to carve out a big league career as at least a back-end starter, which the pitch mix and aptitude to become much more.

Previous pick: OF Corbin Carroll, Lakeside HS (Washington)

For the first rounders, Manoah and Hunter Bishop are the guys I would target, then if gone, Jung or Lodolo (if against conventional wisdom if available). I worry Thompson is Kay II (not a bad thing as it stands now), but going to be a longer road, methinks.

For some reason, I think Kirby will be the pick.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Second round is intriguing...Quinn Priester might slip, Ethan Small would be really good risk pick, and I think Wallner and Quintana would be good finds.
-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-
If he made it to the second, or third, I'd love to roll the dice on Glennallen Hill Jr...
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
I think Malone, Hampton, Cronin, Hunter Brown might be available at the wrong moments.

As far as lesser known high schoolers I like, I don't think they will go the risk route a la Nimmo.

Unless someone crazy falls, Jung would probably be option 1B for me. I'm curious how far Small lasts, he's performing like the pitching version of Brent Rooker, but very little buzz I feel.
