An amazing man. Before 'the biggest loser', denise austin, richard simmons and other fitness gurus, there was Jack Lalane. From what I understand, he gave up 'junk food ' at an early age and gave himself to the study of exercise and motion. I remember as a kid watching Jack on the old WPIX leading people in simple exercises with advice on eating right. He would even burst out in song sometimes
One of the things which also impressed me was his actuallly swimming out on a bay while pulling a couple of boats along. Awesome Human being and God rest his soul

It's difficult to put Jack LaLanne in perspective sitting here in 2011.
As rejoice1 said, he was so far ahead of his time in terms of preaching health and fitness at a time when 99 pct of the public couldn't have cared less about living a healthy lifestyle.
I can remember being a young kid watching his show on TV and how he was so upbeat and encouraging to the people who were doing their exercises along with him.
