We've had more than a few discussions on NYFS of not wanting to lose an important regular season game or a postseason series clinching game on our home field and then having to watch the other team celebrate.
Benfica, a team that has long combined with its Lisbon rival, Sporting, to dominate soccer in Portugal for nearly a century (50 championships combined--32 for Benfica), came up with a unique response to having someone else clinch on their field.
Porto, the third team in Portugal's Big Three, clinched this year's title on Benfica's home field.
The response--Benfica turned off the stadium lights and turned on the field sprinklers within minutes after the game ended.
