Ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Somehow picked it up while browsing the forums this morning. Not sure where it came from, but it has wreaked havoc on Internet Explorer. Tried several suggested fixes and it is seemingly still there!

Beware.

Luckily, using Mozilla browser was an option. Never had before.

This thread is about a month old, but I got this virus a couple of weeks ago on my office computer from browsing NYFS. The IT guys had to wipe it and reinstall things. Is this an NYFS issue, maybe with an advertiser or something? I'm concerned about continuing to use the site at work.

Yeah an update on this would be nice if it's happening to multiple people.

I've gotten this twice on my laptop. Really needs to be fixed.

Does this only affect Vista users? If so I may be clear now since my main PC has Windows 7 and I just put Windows 7 on my laptop the other day.

It would also be another reason why Vista is terrible.

No, my office computer has XP Professional, and that's the one that got the virus (It was called Windows XP Antivirus 2012 for me). However, the two other computers I use regularly are Windows 7. I spend a fair amount of time on all 3 computers on NYFS, and the XP computer got the virus, so I don't know if Windows 7 is immune.

There are third party brokers who sell ad space on NYFS. I have some filtering capability, and further, the broker companies will try and filter this out on their end as well.

I am aware of it, have notified the third party as well as attempting to filter it on my end.

I'll keep you guys posted, but it always helps to let me know when it happens, what you were doing when it happened and the URLs - if any - associated with it.

Thanks! And sorry that the evil malware bastards have been using NYFS ads to cause you guys issues.

Also, I have successfully removed this from a computer here as well.

Malwarebytes Anti Malware works efficiently.

And, here is the Microsoft solution to get rid of it:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/f ... d1a5606c34

Personally, I used task manager to interrupt the process (which I had to quick click, cause it shuts down task manager, too), restarted Windows in Safe Mode, ran Malwarebytes Anti Malware and then my anti-virus software, restarted the computer and re-ran Malwarebytes Anti Malware and my anti-virus software, and that did the trick.

Thanks for clarifying Ed!! I'm way to addicted to this site for me to be scared to come to it at home or work.

Had the same issue. Weird I didnt come across this thread until now.

One thing you need to know is it is a Javascript/IE issue. It comes to you via that loop hole (Vulnerability) and prompts you to accept an install (legit looking java prompt) and once you do, it begins its decent into your computer. You can catch it from just about any site with third party ads (which is about a zillion sites these days). Best bet is to turn javascript off while browsing until things are fixed. I've already contacted oracle and they are aware of the issue. A patch is forth coming (no dates given). One way to eliminate this is to get your Microsoft security essentials up to date. Once you do so, do a full scan and leave your PC. This process takes hours. A quick scan can also sometimes find the culprit however its recommended to do a full scan. You can also close out the process via task manager. This should give you temp. relief until the threat is removed. Always update your pcs via windows update, always update java when prompted to do so and always update flash when prompted. Same goes for any security software you may have. Sorry for the grammar, still groggy.

The links Ed provided are also very helpful. Be patient and this can be a long process. If for any reason the fixes posted dont work, contact Microsoft tech support/or the Manufacturer of your PC. Ask to speak to a higher tier tech. They should be able to prompt you step by step as well. Best of luck.

This is the most lucid thing you have ever written :)

Thanks!
