Hockey fans unite: Let's keep the Islanders on the Island and not in Queens, Brooklyn or anywhere in Canada. Even with a victory there is no sure bet that the Isles will stay on the Island...but w/ a no on Monday its nearly a sure thing that the team will be gone, and thus would end one of the better rivalries in sports.

If you're a Nassau County resident: Go to the polls and vote yes for the referendum on Monday. If you are not a Nassau resident call friends who are and urge them to get out an vote.

I know there is a great deal of misinformation out there, but Newsday's editorial section will paint a pretty clear picture of what to expect w/ a yes - which they endorse.

Thanks for your time.

Honestly, I'm a Rangers fan from Queens, and just like the Islanders on the Island, considering I don't want more traffic from the 6,000 fans who go to the Isles games.

No thanks. I'm not inclined to pay for Charles Wang's new building. If he wants it, he can pay for it himself.

He offered to do that with the Lighthouse Project and the repubs on the Island stood in his way. This way the approximate 'worst case' tax cost is about $100 per constituent before revenues are shared. Wang has committed to $14M minimum revenue sharing w/ the county, which would be a wash (even if the team loses money).

The vote failed.

I feel for Islanders fans, but I can also understand the difficulty of asking taxpayers to foot the bill for something offering the narrow benefits of a sports arena at a time when the economy is in the state it is in.

Their best hope to stay in the area probably rests with joining the Nets in Brooklyn

On edit: Since posting, I read that the configuration of the seating in the Brooklyn arena makes it less than desirable for the NHL.
