I think it's extremely inaccurate to say this storm was overhyped, which I'm reading and hearing in some quarters locally.

It wasn't overhyped if a tree fell down in your yard or dropped on top of your house or car. It wasn't overhyped if it flooded your basement. It wasn't overhyped if it knocked out power that still hasn't been restored.

My mother, who turned 79 on Sunday, the day the storm passed through, and lives on a combination of her savings and social security, still doesn't have electricity and will lose hundreds of dollars worth of frozen food that was stored in her freezer and refrigerator.

Unfortunately, those who say the storm was over hyped are either ignorant of the realities of such storms or are using it for political purposes. Heck, Rush Limbaugh said that President Obama was disappointed the storm wasn't even more severe so that he could blame on the storm for economic problems.

My city was under water. People thinking this was a media overreaction can kiss my arse.

To update, my mother got her electricity back on Wednesday night, so she was without for 85 hours.

I still don't have power, though other parts of my town do. It's really starting to get frustrating.

Parts of upstate New York and Vermont were pretty devastated. People saying it was overhyped must be really narrow-minded and stuck in their own little world. Glad to hear your mother's power came back Chico.

Mine came back late yesterday afternoon, but some of my friends in nearby towns still don't have anything.

There are parts of NY and Vermont that you just cannot even drive through. My mother had to go to Syracuse on work obligations and parts of Schoharie County were still under water.

BTW, we had more storms. I was at work through the brunt of it but I could hear the hail. I had no idea there was a tornado touchdown and that it went through the state thruway:
