How about gems of Rich Coutinho talking about Tank?

coutinho9 The thing that can not be denied about Francesa--he's changed the face of radio--showed us all don't have to be Announcer Joe to be a Star

I'm just not sure what that means, other than I think Coutinho is saying Francesa apparently made being fat OK in radio? Is that a *hint hint* to someone at WFAN? Although the "Announcer Joe" reference confuses me, since "Joe" is typically used to describe the "everyman" persona, which is what I thought he was giving Francesa credit for simply because he is fat?

Should probably stick to his predictions. I think he had the Jets at 16-0 this year.

Did anyone catch Mike's Sunday morning show on TV this week? Truly a classic moment, they come back from break and Mike apologizes about having noseblees from "blowing his nose so much" due to a cold. Meanwhile, the cameras stays on him while he is furiously working his nose with a tissue and blood is running down his hand and he's talking to a caller. Why the producer didn't cut away and go to a graphic is practically a fireable offense. It was repulsive.

Clip anyone?

I read that tweet and I was looking to see if it was in response to anything or if he had tweeted before that and was following up. But it appeared to be a lone tweet out of the blue.

As far as the predictions go, I think we could have fun with a thread tracking Coutinho's various forecasts.

I think we would expect to see the Mets building their offseason marketing campaign around the return of Jose Reyes if we had believed Coutinho.

Francesa's WFAN show is now called "Mike's On".

It seems NBC TV owns the rights to "Mike'd Up" and wouldn't allow him to use it on the radio once he stopped doing the TV show of the same name.

Mike'd On! He's ready to go! Mike'd On! On the FAN, New York sports radio! Mike'd On! Mike'd on!

It's just not the same.

My favorite line from the song is, "Getting to the sports anyway that he can..." Are you serious? It's his job to talk sports! It's not like he is being held hostage and his captors force him to talk business ethics. He's on sports talk radio, but he has to get to the sports anyway that he can. He's Mike Francessa on the FAN.

Why didn't NBC just change the name of their show to Bruce'd Up?

"Mike'd Up with Bruce Beck" vs. "Mike's On" - battle of the terrible show names. At least one is a "Numbah 1".

Someone can correct me on the chronology, but I believe the TV show pre-dated the break up of "Mike and the Mad Dog" and that he adopted the "Mike'd Up" name on radio with permission from NBC.

It seems kind of petty for NBC to not relinquish the name after he stopped doing the TV show, but who knows the related back-story, such as Francesa's dwindling attendance on the TV show even before he formally announced he was giving it up. His decision to give up the show may very well have had a contract negotiation dimension to it.

BTW, the Giants winning the Super Bowl caused people to realize Chris Russo exists somewhere on satellite radio and his whole show this week is him getting into fights with Giants fans on the radio and twitter with Russo defending the championship merits of his San Francisco Giants after calling the Giants fortunate. Somehow if he had Francesa as a partner or was on terrestrial radio in NYC, I doubt he would have the guts to be this contrarian.
