As with many , My Saturdays were a TV panorama ranging from Cartoons, to Sports, to Jackie Gleason, and especially Mr. Clark. Way before the MTV days, he captained a TV show with a mirror on Rock and Roll in America for many years

The music, the 'rate a record' segment, the interviews with stars from the doo-wop era to Madonna were a highlight for me in those formative years

And if that wasn't enough, Mr. Clark hosted TV shows such as the 25,000 pyramid and different 'bloopers' themed shows. And was the first Tv voice to wish us happy new year from Times Square. Quite a force in the entertainment world

I can actually remember back to when American Bandstand was on daily in the afternoons from Philadelphia.

For me, as a pre-teen, it was a window into the tastes of "teenagers" a group I viewed with a certain amount of awe.

It was also interesting seeing Dick Clark, who embodied a clean-cut image, go from hosting similarly clean cut performers to acts that became increasingly anti-establishment from the late 60s on.

One note on that part about transition, Dick Clark never tried to change all that much, because nothing makes kids take an older person less seriously than that adult trying and failing to appear cutting edge.

I think the fact that Clark, even though he was called "America's oldest teenager" by some, was always respected by teenagers because he never made the mistake of trying to be anything other than what he was.
