I remember the classically trained stage actor, Johnathan Frid playing the bloodthirsty, lovesick vampire, Barnabas Collins on the Dark Shadows TV Soap Opera. Would scare the daylights out of me and my siblings as the first thing we saw on TV after school. Then we repeat the process again while the show had its run

There's a movie version of Dark Shadows coming out with Johnny Depp playing Barnabas Collins. Depp got to spend time with Mr. Frid on the set of the remake. should be interesting how the reviews go for that movie

It seems sometimes you and I are the only ones who remember these people when they pass, rejoice1.

I have to share a story that sort of relates to Mr. Frid--

My last couple of years in high school and first couple of years in college, I worked at a drug store lunch counter in my hometown.

At the time, there was a summer playhouse in town and it would feature plays and musicals with touring companies, often headed by "name" stars.

One of the plays was "Sleuth", with Patrick Macnee, star of the tv show, "The Avengers", in the role played on screen by Lawrence Olivier.

For the run of the show in town, Mr. Macnee would come in and have a cup of coffee and a grilled cheese sandwich before going to the playhouse to perform the show.

I'm happy to report that he was as gentlemanly as you'd expect John Steed, his character on "The Avengers", to be.

Generally, the lunch counter was quiet when he was there and people would respect his privacy if they recognized him. .

Except one day, a delivery man who dropped products off two or three times a week, recognized Mr. Macnee and started up a conversation (pretty much one-sided).
The delivery man went on and on about how he was fan, but his wife was an even bigger fan of his character "you know, the vampire on that afternoon show. What's it called? "Dark Shadows"?"

Ever the gentleman, Mr. Macnee didn't have the heart to tell the man he had the wrong classically-trained actor from TV. And he signed an autograph and addressed it to the delivery man's wife.

Mr. McNee could have had a fit with the delivery man. class act.

I guess much of this site has younger people who didn't experience dark shadows, or american bandstand in its' heyday. Something how these cultural icons of our youth are passing though.

I came across some dark shadows bloopers on youtube yesterday. it's interesting how Mr. Frid and the other actors on the show kept their composure with blown lines and faulty props
