RIP Jack Bruce

Sat Oct 25, 2014 2:14 pm

Dead at the age of 71, he was the bassist for Cream, the superstar trio that included Eric Clapton on lead guitar and Ginger Baker on drums.

Bruce wrote a lot of Cream's iconic songs and was its primary singer. He is credited with developing the guitar riff on "Sunshine of Your Love".

I got to see him perform live in his post-Cream career with another trio, West, Bruce, and Laing, where he teamed with Leslie West and Corky Laing, who had been with Mountain.

And there was a further tie-in where Felix Pappalardi, who had produced some of Cream's most memorable music, was, along with West, the creative force and a musician with Mountain.

Jack Bruce was an important part of one of rock's great eras.

Cream was awesome. Severely underrated.
