Good players make good managers.

They'll be fine without him.

Probably.

It hardly matters.. a good manager is like 15th on the list of importance of a successful ballclub.

Even so, you have to believe he is part of the reason for their success this year.

Not every rookie comes up to the big leagues and plays well, no matter how good they are.

So the Gm puts together a team and can randomly select a manager and get the same results? Doubt it.

If John Gibbons, Joe Torre, Tony Larussa or Lou Pinella were the Met manager instead of Willie, they'd still be +/- 3 wins from 92-60, where they are now.

Good managers aren't insignificant, but it's not like they're essential to a team's success. Just look at Joe Torre.

I think you're oversimplifying it. And not giving managers enough credit for all the things they do in the clubhouse and on the field before and after games.

The '73 A's players disliked each other and they all hated Dick Williams.

What did they do again? I don't seem to recall at the moment......

Like I said, team harmony, unity and good managing are great things to have, but by no means are they vital to a winning franchise.

They almost lost to a team that won 82 games.

Almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

No, it's also an indication that despite having superior talent their dysfunctional nature nearly cost them a WS.

Now that i see you're just going to make non-witty remarks I'll bow out of this discussion. You can continue to post on various threads that the manager doesn't matter. Most fans will continue to disagree with you.
