And the hilarity ensues.

But hey, at least they don't have to worry about the V-Mart injury now.

This won't end well.

Such a terrible deal. All three of their top hitters (granted, V-mart out this year) are poor fielding first basemen.

They MUST trade Cabrera for me to think this will be a good move.

They aren't going to just trade Cabrera; he's an elite level player who is bound for the Hall of Fame. That would also pretty much defeat the purpose of this signing; if they wanted just one of them, they wouldn't have signed Fielder since, well, Cabrera is clearly much better and locked up long-term at a much cheaper price. The idea is to have both of them in the same lineup together giving opposing pitchers nightmares.

They'll probably fit Fielder at 1B with Cabrera at DH in 2012 and then pawn V-Mart off somewhere next year. V-Mart is good but he can't hold Fielder or Cabrera's jock strap. They could also do something crazy like stick Cabrera at 3B again and keep V-Mart... we'll see.

By the way, aging curves for fat dudes:

Quote:
Below is a graph that shows the aging curve of the heavy players we identified, and the curve for average sized players. Across the x-axis is age, and the y-axis runs (batting, positional, UZR), with 0 being the peak year. The y-axis shows how many runs below the peak year they are at a given age.

It gives them some crazy power for the 3 and 4 spots in the lineup.

The price is crazy, but I like it for them.

I don't understand people saying that Fielder is going to opt-out. Why would the *player* opt-out of this deal? Am I missing something? Is he going to get a 7 year deal with the same AAV in 2 years?

He doesn't have an opt-out in the deal.

Heyman claims Cabrera doesn't mind moving to 3B to make room for Prince; Lord have mercy on Rick Porcello and his groundball tendencies with that infield.

Yes, this will probably be a very bad deal down the road but he'll be a monster for about 4 more years. Fielder is a game-wrecker and that 3 and 4 is epic.
