Anyone see the call that ended the Rays-Rangers game last night? Full count curve to Zobrist, low and outside - the ump calls it for a strike to end the game. A right handed hitter might have gotten hit in the foot with this pitch- insanely bad call.

He called that a strike because he started going towards first base before the ump made a call. Umps HATE being shown up.

Without getting involved in superlatives, it was a terrible call.

Highly, highly doubtful.

Umpires have egos too. I have more issue with this than I do with an ump missing or blowing a call(aka the human element).

No one's vision is off that bad. It had the right height of a strike at the point of crossing the plate, but it was at least 8 inches wide.

Umps are untouchable (job security wise). Until that changes... well...

How about the Indians-A's game last night? A's infielder Adam Rosales hits the game tying HR off of Indians closer Chris Perez. It's originally called a double. Bob Melvin comes out to complain. So the Angel Hernandez Braintrust goes and checks the replay, which clearly shows the ball hitting the railing ABOVE the yellow line. So Angel and the rest of the clowns come out of the clown car and call it a double, saying there wasn't enough evidence to overturn the call on the field. And Melvin gets tossed. Seriously. Unreal.

Deadspin has an article on this. Basically, the MLB is using inferior equipment in exchange for a sponsorship:

Not shocking at all. I cannot wait until we have a new commissioner.
