It's really cool stuff, lots of visuals (best and worst of the week, etc.) along with updated framing statistics, and it uses a pretty simple methodology: out of zone strikes vs in zone balls.

Lucroy has been worth +7.7 runs from framing so far, best in baseball by far (Molina is second at +3.6). Evan Gattis (+2.7), Francisco Cervelli (+2.5), and Hank Conger (+1.6) surprisingly fill out three of the next four spots.

John Buck ranks near the bottom of catchers at -4.8 runs. Least shocking placements: Doumit and Montero rank last in OZoneStrike-to-InZoneBall ratio, both below 0.4; Lucroy, for comparison, has a 2.22 ratio of out of zone strikes in-zone balls. They would rank lower in the runs leaderboard if they played more games at catcher.

As Buck's bat nosedives and his "measurable" defense doesn't add up to much, we're gonna have to work double-hard on the leadership/intangibles narrative to keep that early season story going.

Case in point: Josh Lewin compared he and Carter in the sense of "you know who's in charge" when they're on the field, and Buck's "durability" in playing ~90% of his teams' games so far this year with Kid's career %-of-games-played percentage.

Buck's framing seems to work for Harvey and Parnell, and Niese when he reaches a more Niese like velocity...

Buck remains one of the worst. As of Lindbergh's latest article (5/18), he has an OZoneStrikes to ZoneBalls ratio of 0.45; only Ryan Doumit and Jesus Montero are worse (both at 0.32). In the format of runs, he's been worth -11.4, also 3rd worst in baseball.

On the opposite end, Jonathan Lucroy remains a men among boys: +9.6 runs leads all qualified catchers; Yadier Molina is a distant 2nd at +5.6, followed by his brother Jose at +3.3.

I wonder if he complains too much...

Not Lindbergh's work, but Jeff Sullivan has his own All-Star break catcher framing update (measuring teams, not individual catchers), where the Mets continue to rank poorly (3rd worst), including the worst differential from last year to this year: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/all-star ... ng-update/
