I can't see how this would work. It would fit too nicely with the Yankees' stated desire to void his contract.

Of course we don't know the differences in evidence and offenses between players, but why would ARod get a lifetime ban and not simply 100 games.

He reportedly tried to interfere with the investigation.

The fact that he attempted to purchase and destroy evidence makes me think that a lifetime ban might actually be possible (and deserved).

I've heard a bunch on radio and ESPN how Braun's punishment set a template of what to expect for A-Rod. I can't believe that. Braun was at the very top of MLB's s***-list for wriggling out of his suspension in 2011. He made fools of them. They wanted Braun bad(not that they don't want to get A-Rod either).

A-Rod(AFAIK) has not failed any drug test(unless he failed the original test in 2003 which the results were sealed). He also has earned 350 million dollars in pure salary: he has a war chest to mount a long legal battle.

He's not getting a lifetime ban. I really think the most he gets is a yearlong ban(even that might be too long).

They're saying A-Rod tampered or tried to tamper with the investigation by attempting to purchase the evidence from Bosch. That's supposedly why MLB wants to nail A-Rod with as big a punishment as possible.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

As much as I'd like to see them drop the hammer on A-Rod part of me would be livid at MLB bailing the Yankees out of that awful contract....

Geez, now this is actually kind of hilarious.

Rotoworld:

The Rangers will still be on the hook for roughly $40 million in deferred payments to Alex Rodriguez if the slugger is banished for life.

The Yankees stand to save almost $100 million if A-Rod is banned from baseball, but Texas wouldn't be so fortunate. The deferred payments, scheduled to be paid from 2016-2025, will inflate to nearly $50 million by the time the debt is paid.

Forgot about that.

Both teams had to know that those contracts were silly...

ESPN NY reports the Yankees served A-Rod with a letter that they will fine him for being AWOL for a day during his rehab assignment and also seeking a second opinion without approval

They want that contract voided badly. My position is that they'll likely save $30m on their own stupidity...they just need to let the process play out and keep their traps zipped...
