It's easy to talk up Byrd and Liriano as excellent bargain signings from last winter but Martin belongs in that same category despite getting a multi-year deal. Such an underrated player.

Awesome atmosphere in Pittsburgh. Glad this team is advancing to the NLDS, the fans deserve it.

And Jon Heyman is PISSED.

"He may not have won over the sabremetric crowd, but he wins games."

Indeed. I'm not sure which was more impressive during his time in Cincy - his ability to score runs, or his ability to prevent them.

I think the record speaks for itself: if you think you have a championship team, Dusty is not the right manager for your team.

Apparently the news was leaked to the Cincy players last night and they weren't that upset.

That being said, if what I heard is correct and they're looking to bring in Jim Riggleman.... this was a TERRIBLE decision.

Baker was a poor tactician and he also fueled the silly debates over Joey Votto's approach. I've been on record that manager impact gets way overrated but it was probably time to move on.
