This will make a lot of currently employed managers uneasy

And the Rays are subsequently considering a move to Montreal:

I'm pretty sure the O is unusable at this point though, and in a city where it will drop a foot of snow in mid-April, you really need a roof. I would hope they keep the same name for irony's sake.

Do you think the Montreal community will build a new stadium if it means they'll definitely get a team?

I have serious personal reservations about publicly subsidizing billionaires, but I really don't blame cities that don't have a team for wanting one, either.

You spent about 1000 percent more time there than I have, but it's really a great world city. I think it would be great to get it back in MLB.

Not a chance in hell. It's easily the most socialist place in North America, going well beyond the term "liberal" into some truly red territory. Two years ago most of the universities in the province were on strike for an entire semester because they wanted to raise annual tuition from $1,400 to around $3,000 (yes, you read that right - feel free to chuckle). I believe that a lot of the tuition reforms were eventually pulled back, but suffice to say, they're perhaps even farther to the left politically than they were a decade ago. While the city is doing much better financially, and is finally at more or less full vacancy in terms of housing for the first time since they put the language laws in place in the '70s, they still aren't flush, and baseball isn't particularly popular there.

All that said, I do think that Montrealers would get behind a team with good management that showed it cared about the city and its inhabitants, and it is an awfully large market to have only one major sports franchise. The Habs sell out every game, and getting tickets is like getting tickets to an MLB playoff game. Obviously hockey is infinitely more popular there than is baseball, but I think there's enough money in the city to support a team. I also get the impression that there have been more Anglos moving in over the last decade as it became something of a hipster mecca, but I'm going off of observed anecdote there.

I really think this is probably an empty threat on Steinberg's part though.
