Alex Rodriguez and yanks have 11 a.m. press conference tomorrow

Assuming it's what we all think it is, wonder if anyone picks him up just to get his 700th HR and 3000 hits?

How much value do those things have if they were done elsewhere?

I really don't know, but I think it would have to be a team that needs help at the gate. There really aren't that many of those teams left.

Tampa picked up Wade Boggs to get his 3000th hit and has a history of picking up declining stars toward the end. They haven't done it as much recently when they've been a relevant organization but this year they're totally irrelevant in August-September and it's near home for ARod so I could see that happening.

I don't see another match for him...NL teams aren't picking him up to a be a PH'er and relevant AL teams aren't picking him up to replace their DH. He probably wouldn't want to go to another irrelevant team besides Tampa.

Now watch the Mets pick him up and send Conforto down, god help us if that happens.

A-Rod's final game (with the Yankees) is Friday. Leave it to them to make one more big payday off A-Rod's name though I'm sure he also wanted to say goodbye to the fans too.

Good riddance, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

So he's walking away with 21 million on the table next year? (I know he'll get some of that back for his "special consultant" role, maybe even most of it. Still, I wonder how much money he's walking away from, not that he needs it, but he does have a very expensive stripper habit to maintain.

I've always loved a good underdog story. Go Mets (2018). I know an underdog when I see one.

He's not walking away at all, he's being granted a release. He's still getting all of his money. The Yankees are just keeping him around through Friday for one more payday (the home game attendance/ratings). They can't make that any more obvious than by the way they've yanked him around this week with Girardi telling him he could play all the games then holding him out of every game.

It's pretty rude to let Tex play out and clearly stink but not A-Rod. They also let Jeter hit 2nd all year in 2014 when he was one of the worst hitters in the league.

The Jeter stuff was inconceivable to me. Jeter was given way too many starts when he was just about the worst starter in the majors. Made no sense at all.

The Jeter stuff was predictable. He's Derek Jeter. Even the Yankees aren't that cold-blooded.

The Texiera thing is another story, that's clearly political especially in comparison with A-Rod. Don't tell me it's cause he can field either, that's silly. Teams don't employ good-field no-hit first basemen in the American League. And A-Rod has done more on the field for the Yankees than even Texiera.

The entire thing is bizarre. They just sold off major pieces of the 2016 team thereby officially punting the season and they can't keep ARod around another 2.5 weeks until rosters expand?? As if his roster spot is so precious they cannot keep him a moment longer...

The money is something else entirely. That's contractual and isn't going away. The way they are brushing him aside now however, is shocking to me. It's clearly retribution for something. What that is exactly is anyone's guess. Probably the year suspension they're still mad about. It seems very much like it's some axe that the Steinbrenner boys have to grind.
