oh yeah i am thrilled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was just announced on SI.com and on The Dan Patrick Show that The Who will be the halftime show for the NFL Super Bowl in Miami. I think this is a huge honor for the band and is long overdue.

I don't want to come off like a musical snob here, but I can't imagine any one of any generation who wouldn't absolutely love the music of The Who. Have you heard much of their stuff?

It's not a huge honor for The Who. It's a huge honor for the Super Bowl.

you're right. i love them as you can tell. i have all the boots from 1968 to 77. and every dvd/cd thats on amazon. they are on par with the beatles, led zep and the stones. my faves are the who and the beatles. i think tommy was the most creative album i may have ever heard and they changed music with that. who's next was gonna be another "rock opera" but townshend didn't like the middle. he finally finished in years later and caled it "the lifehouse chronicles." he is writing another rock opera right now called "floss" and it's about how music keeps you young no matter your age. they expect to release it sometime during 2010. when you think about all the bands that happened because of the who it's just amazing. they were the 1st punk band, angst band and created the rock opera or concept album. i'm ready!

ua - I agree with your top 2 all time - Beatles and The Who.

What a perfect combination of creative genius (Townshend), front man (Daltrey), and pounding rythm (Moon and Entwhistle).

Pete Townshend's one of my favorite lyricists/guitarists ever and Daltrey's still got more left than his other vocal contemporaries but you might as well call this The Half-of-The Who Half-Time Show". Moon's been gone for a while, yes, but John Entwistle's was like George Harrison's presence on The Beatles. Not that he's gone there is no real shot of having your Who experience ever captured the way it used to be.

I hate the NFL going so back to get good rock music because that is just either really showing how dated they are or how there are certain people are so dismissive about the current rock scene. Kings of Leon, The Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, My Morning Jacket, or even Green Day would have been inspired choices. This choice was so expected. I think arguing it plays into age demographic is a bit dishonest, I would say the NFL age demographic is in the middle between basketball and baseball. Also, it was only recent did the '60-'70s rock scene has become this half-time show staple:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Su ... time_shows

Actually after looking at that list, I am glad the NFL is taking it somewhat seriously. Still only Prince really seemed to pass my expectations in recent half-time shows. The rest either were just solid to disappointing.

I have given up on my Muse ever doing this even though if there was ever a point in time they would be most present to do so, it was with The Resistance album this year.
