So after my limited action on the board/thread this season (will compensate by once again, putting over emphasis into off-season and draft), I come over to be all melancholy over how this season ended. 10-6 and no playoffs, could have been 12-4 contending for a BYE but whatever you cannot change that.

Casserley reports Coughlin gets a one-year extension. Cannot really think the major assistants are in danger aside from Quinn. 3 DCs in as many seasons is not sound and as much as I hate Gilbride, and how inexcusable all of those TOs were, I cannot see him leaving except to get a bigger job elsewhere. Hey UConn, hey Pitt. You looking for a coach? Wide Receivers and possibly QB coach are assistant jobs I think are game.

So upsetting what happened to Seubert one of the unsung heroes this season and probably should have had O'Hara's spot in the pro bowl.

I hope it occurred to Reese and co. that LBs need to be addressed. God I hope we are in position to draft Bruce Carter.

Giants had the record they should have had - they are about a 10 and 6 team. Good coach, pretty good QB (probably 10 to 15 in the NFL, but during a very good time for QB's). Many Giant fans have morphed into spoiled Yankee-type fans, acting as though they should never lose and if they do heads must roll.

It is true. There are Giants fans, and the media, who do take on this holier than thou, bird from a perch attitude about the team like they are the Yankees of the NFL, which they are not. Part of it is the geography with the media surrounding the team and the fact many Giants fans are Yankee fans. The old guard of fans who over the past couple of years got a taste what it was like to be objectified and hit in the wallet with the PSLs are especially bitter. These are the people who yell down in front, leave the stadium with a big lead, and behave like crickets during a game. But of course now they talk about shaking things up, risky and possibly stupid with a looming work stoppage.

And suddenly over the past year did this become of Mike Francesa.

Cam Newton as the new QB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't go on the giants.com message boards. Some people are crazy with their thoughts. 8-8 and 10-6 the last two years and with how some of these people act you would think they won 4 games each year.

Seriously, if you told me before the year they would finish 10-6, I would have taken that. However, it was just the way they got there that is frustrating. Not to boil it down to one game but the loss to Philly was the killer. Up 31-10 with 8 minutes to go and you lose that game. Between not getting the onsides kick, Phillips trying to make the INT instead of tackling Celek on the TD, Ross not keeping contain on one of Vick's long runs, etc. Usually 10-6 is good enough to get you in, but you kind of had the feeling it would not be good enough this year if the Giants lost the wrong games, which they obviously did.

As far as off-season moves, it is not looking good for Kiwi. I expect some change in the O-Line based on mileage among guys like O'Hara and health with Seubert and Andrews (I still see Shawn staying). Some talk Jacobs could be in danger of getting released but the media loves to pick out of the lineup one potential malcontent to get kicked out the door.

Bulluck and Grant are guys I think are as good as gone.

Giants have the 19th overall pick in the draft. Just throwing out names:

LB- Von Miller, Texas A & M
Akeem Ayers, UCLA
Bruce Carter, UNC- Could be a second round pick pending on how much the team likes him. Pro Day and Combine are out the window after he got surgery.
Justin Houston, Georgia- Probably a better fit in a 3-4.

OT- Nate Solder, Colorado
Anthony Castonzo, Boston College
Gabe Carimi, Wisconsin
Derek Sherrod, Mississippi State

OG/OC- Mike Pouncey, Florida
Stefan Wisniewski, Penn State

RB- Mark Ingram Jr.- This is going to be the WFAN Giant fan pick.

I think Ingram is going to be a fabulous pro, kind of a poor man's Emmitt Smith - not the fastest or biggest or strongest, but better than those who are.

Fewell has had his name thrown around with Carolina, the Browns, and Broncos. He will be interviewing with the Browns, already met with the Panthers, and then will meet with the Broncos later in the upcoming week.
