He's an upgrade on Cotchery.

I was skeptical at first too but it was mostly due to emotional attachment to Cotch. Mason's a better player.

Shaun Ellis' departure hurts more, since he's got the same long-term attachment thing going, and he's the best player we could put at his position. Cotchery wasn't.

The fact that Ellis went to the Pats doesn't make things any easier to take.

Nobody is going to know who is on any team this upcoming season. It's insane.

:x Steve Smith to the Eagles. Big loss if his knee is healthy. Nicks and Manningham is a very good combo, but their depth is pretty weak. Hopefully Jernigan can step up which might be hard considering he's a rookie. Maybe Michael Clayton still thinks it's 2004. Barden's injury isn't helping things either...

Something is fishy with the Smith thing. He claims openly that the Giants DIDN'T WANT HIM, and Coughlin is pissed because Smith told him that the Giants would have a chance to match.

Regardless, not good for the G-Men.

Well someone is lying here. Coughlin says they were promised a chance to match. Smith's agent says no to that. If I had to guess, I would say that the Giants did not think there was a serious offer out there so the Giants tried to bring him back with a low offer. Considering the injury he is coming back from and their cap situation, I am not surprised at all that the Giants gave him a low offer.

I would never call Coughlin a liar. I am guessing the agent sold the Eagles on Smith's health which the Giants did not buy at all even though they had Rolle and Webster take pay cuts (we are still barely under the cap at $3 million). It just seems so striking and flippant to sign with your biggest rival of the team you were previously playing for the last 4 seasons. Am I being too much of a fan to think players are beyond seeing those lines- or is that too cynical? Eagles-Giants rivalry has always had bad blood so I am still trying to wrap my head around Smith jumping ship to go there. Not saying fans are not wrong for getting on him but really Steve, you had to see that coming as somebody attuned to social networking specifically with Giants fans.

We need a veteran slot receiver and a TE within the next few weeks. I can maybe seeing get maybe one player that fits that criterion of note at best. We also need a full

There was at least logic applied to the 'no signings', the problem has been the Giants were not really prepared for a Plan B or the Plan B skipped by. Boss was not worth the money he got but there were a slew of TEs re-signed or signed (not Zach Miller but solid players like Jeff King, Donald Lee, Matt Spaeth). The only time it appeared we had a plan B was when we had Jason Snelling in the building during the Bradshaw negotiations. Losing Bradshaw, something I thought was going to happen, did not so that is one positive. We improved our ST instantaneously signing Weatherford. Cofield going to the Redskins hurts but I am excited about Joseph and Austin. Baas is an upgrade over O'Hara. Seubert was lucky to play in this league for this long. I don't buy Osi being a major distraction. Coughlin and Reese dealt with the Strahan MIA/retirement talk just fine, it was the fans freaking out that we must deal him for a TE or draft picks or 'rebuild' (in football? surely you jest!) that was making my eyes roll out of my head.

What is annoying is that the media is already drumming up drama and certain Giants fans are the worst when there is modicum of adversity. With that said what is up with saying the Giants 'lost' Plaxico Burress? He was not under team control, how can it be a loss? It was a loss 2 years ago when his stupidity cost us a chance to repeat!

I wasn't the biggest Boss fan, that's the truth. Never thought he was as good as say, Shockey was. The question is who is replacing him.

I'll be interested to see how Aaron Maybin does with the Jets.

The natural reaction is to expect he's Vernon Gholston 2.0.

Pretty much. I think people really underestimate how much Eli's weapons have revolved over the years, and in some cases regressed.

Jake Ballard is the pure TE while Beckum is an H-Back. I am not really sure how Beckum fits the offense. He seems in hindsight a pure BPA pick. Allegedly him and Gilbride have not been on the same page at all, which is not exactly what you wanna hear.
