I don't know what I'm going to do if Brian Schottenheimer is retained as OC.

I'm also having my doubts about Mark Sanchez having a high enough ceiling to get the job done, but it ain't going to happen with the way Schotty calls plays.

If you had told me the Jets would hold the Giants under 10 yards rushing in the first half and Eli under 40 pct completions for the game I'd have signed up for those numbers any time.

But the offense had a hard time unwrapping all the gifts they were handed.

I also hope all the talk by Rex and Sanchez after the game was just for public consumption and not what they actually believe.

The idea that they were "forced" to throw because it was dictated by the score is pure bs. Sanchez threw almost 30 passes in the first half, which they led until the end and only trailed 10-7 at halftime.

They also need to make a lot of moves to clean out a lot of dead wood this offseason.

TJ Conley is not an NFL punter. They need at least 2 new offensive linemen. Kyle Wilson stinks. They need new safeties. A better pk would be nice, too.

And they need to start thinking about character. They've cut a lot of team leaders the last couple of years and you need those kinds of guys when the other team punches you in the proverbial nose.

Santonio Holmes is a selfish punk who isn't producing anywhere near what he's getting paid, although he'd probably be a lot better if they could throw down the field (hard to tell if he's been doing enough to get separation). It's a joke that a team captain would pull the nonsense he pulled against the Eagles and he had at least one key drop today (in the interest of disclosure, I went overboard in my praise of him last year. I was wrong. He's good, not great)

I almost hope they don't make the playoffs because they could win a game and then get deluded into thinking all the changes aren't needed.

It also burns me when I turn on a game and hear the announcers talk about some veteran offensive lineman who was picked up after training camp and has helped solidify a team's pass protection.

Then I see Wayne Hunter killing the team on a regular basis and I think of that stiff, whose name I can't even remember, who tried to fill in when Mangold was hurt.

We need to make changes for sure. You really should be able to throw the ball when playing the Giants.

Get rid of both QB and OC.

Sanchez played poorly but should a guy in his third year be kicked to the curb? Especially with a team that ready to take it to the next level with a real tweaks? Who would you get? Peyton Manning looks like he will stay in Indy. Drew Brees isn't going anyway. Orton and Matt Flynn are arguably the most talented FA QBs available unless you want to hope a good QB not named Luck drops to you in the mid-first round and I doubt even RG3 makes it to the Jets spot.

Schottenheimer is clearly using kid's gloves with him when the weapons they have on offense dictate a completely different strategy. The strategy against the Giants gave me PTSD when Gilbride force Eli to throw over 60 times in a game against the Redskins (and thinking about it now, it was in the cold which made the football a friggin' brick) when there was no reason to do such a thing. Unless you are in a barn-burner that is not a good strategy. Schottenheimer does need to be fired and Sanchez at the very least deserves a chance with a more creative offensive mind. I would have suggested Norv Turner, who regardless of his head coaching ability is a QB's dream OC, likely being available but it appears that bridge was burned. I feel like they need a veteran, well-regarded OC to be foil for Rex because despite being with the organization longer, Schottenheimer's seniority is really irrelevant given the results.

I'm not quite ready to cast Sanchez aside, but there are some troubling signs.

He's getting a lot of passes knocked down at the line and you can't make him grow 3 or 4 inches.

His accuracy has been really poor lately. I know they'll never admit it, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's playing hurt.

An area that he hasn't mastered at all is knowing when to take a sack, when to throw the ball away, when to get rid of it quickly.

That said, he needs the running game to make play-action work and that's what made the play calling so frustrating yesterday. Both backs were getting good yardage and they still threw the ball 2/3 of the time.

i think Mr. T has a lot of responsibility to shoulder with this mess. In the last three years he has yet to address some of the glaring needs on this team which are a true pass rushing defensive end, and a safety that can actually cover a tight end. He is also responsible for the lack of depth on the offensive line. Wayne Hunter has been awful at protecting Sanchez, but there is no one available to replace him from within. Maybe this goes to Woody Johnson, but this team is so concsious of making a big splash...eg Tomlinson, Burress, etc...that they lost focus on the gruntwork people. Hopefully Tannenbaum will be honest with himself and refocus the offseason on the talent level of this team, and not go for glamour.

You make some really good points, Steve.

It's pretty well accepted that Woody Johnson was behind the whole Favre thing and that he's very enamored of flashy names. I think it's fair to wonder how much influence he had in going for what has amounted to style over substance.

I also understand in a salary cap league that you have to take some risks where you go with younger players over vets who get paid more.

They've had mixed results. I was always a big Cotchery fan (I'll never forget how he dragged his leg to get the extra yards for a first down after tearing his groin muscle last year), but I have to admit Kerley has done a nice job as the slot receiver.

I really don't know enough about the job John Conner has done, but Tony Richardson might be the best block-first "modern" fullback ever and he seemed to be pretty good last year and he was definitely a guy who commanded respect.

Obviously, going with Hunter was a disaster.

It's funny, but Jerry Reese takes a lot of heat when he makes those kinds of moves and he seems to come out smelling like a rose most of the time.

Maybe the Jets don't know their own personnel as well as the Giants know their personnel.

More news to be fair to Mr T--the 49ers released Braylon Edwards, even though they're headed to the playoffs and don't have great depth at wide receiver.

Edwards, who has all of 15 catches, reportedly told the media earlier that he needed time to rehab from injury before he had discussed the need with his coach.

So most, if not all, of the guys the Jets walked away from last offseason have not performed somewhere else.

But in Edwards case, he got injured during the season. That might not have happened with the Jets. And he and Sanchez had chemistry last year too. In retrospect, I would have rather had Edwards than Plaxico.

Repeating an oft-groaned about meme:nobody hurts you more in such a limited role than Matt Mulligan. Amazing for the lack of field time he gets how often he gets penalized, misses a block, gets pancaked, etc.

Santonio Holmes should never play another down for this team.

Rex was evasive, but basically admitted Holmes took himself out of the game with no apparent explanation.

They can try to bs the public, but they can't bs the other players in the room and they know the alleged captain quit late in the most critical point of a must-win.

He simply can't come back to the Jets.

So many of the same culprits.

Mulligan 2 false starts, then the face mask to create 1st-and-25 (followed by a wildcat play from the brilliant Schotty).

Kyle Wilson with a missed tackle along the sideline that allowed another 15 yds after the catch.

Sanchez throwing 2 picks to D Linemen. Who's ever seen that?

And how about that last pick? Dan Dierdorf, giving him the benefit of the doubt all day, said it was about 7 yards behind where it needed to be.

Lots of work ahead for Mr T
