This is a tough poll. Parcells along with George Young resurrected the giants as a football force and created a coaching tree along with the super bowl victories.

Equally remarkable is a coach in Tom Coughlin, who while on the proverbial 'hot seat' at least twice in his giant coaching career not only escapes such hot seat but coaches 2 SB champions with Eli as QB.

Amazing...

Was Phil Simms good? I am asking. I was too young to watch and evaluate his play. He has some pretty poor passing numbers compared to Eli.

Tuna is the reason it is close, but Coughlin is a very good coach himself. I have to take Eli and Coughlin myself.

I'm sorry for being a Jets fan weighing in on all these Giants topics, but I have admired the Giants going back to the Parcells/Simms era and Parcells and Simms are two of the biggest reasons.

That said, I think Eli is the best quarterback ever to play for either New York team (at least in my time, which goes back to the early 60s--I have vague memories of YA Tittle, but I didn't know enough to know what was good and bad then).

And I think Parcells was probably a better coach than Coughlin, but that perception may be based more on Parcells' larger-than-life personality than anything really to do with football.

Coughlin did a great job in college at Boston College, he turned an expansion team into a legit team in a few short years, and now, he's won two Super Bowls with the Giants.

I voted Coughlin/Eli

Don't apologize Chico, I really enjoy non-partial opinions or opinions of other team's fans on certain issues. I definitely agree on Eli, while also agreeing Giants fans, as a whole, will still even generally underrate him. Coughlin has won just about any place he has been, same as Parcells. The opinion, obviously, is that Parcells is larger-than-life because he is, however, Coughlin is not only incredibly smart, he is a survivor and clearly able to adapt with these two teams; he is also very genuine. He clearly loves this team, as a team and as individuals (and no, not only his son-in-law from BC, which is just crazy in my opinion, another amazing thing he's "overcome" haha).

Eli is so much better than any other Giants' QB that I think that alone would make me pick him, while the Parcells-Coughlin difference is so minuscule right now that its hard not to pick him and Eli together.

Mike, Simms played in a totally different era. In the 80s with the dominant defenses getting 25+ TDs or 3000 yards was a big deal. Obviously Marino played then, however, in 1986 for instance, he lead the league with 44 TDs followed by O'Brien with 25. To me, that is amazing. This year, Brees and Rodgers were both over 44, with guys 3-9 all finishing with over 25 TDs (for comparison, Mark Sanchez this year was that 9th guy with 26).

Passing yardage-wise, the top 4 guys this year were above Marino's mark, with the next 3 guys were above O'Brien who was second that year with 4,109, while the rest of the top 10 also finished over 4,000 yards. So there, the entire top 10 this year was over 4,000 yards while only two were in 1986.

The Parcells/Simms tandem was nearly derailed from the beginning when Tuna decided to bench Simms for Scott Brunner. Nearly cost Parcells his job. Coughlin/Eli tandem win for patience.

As much as I loved the giants Superbowl teams in the 80/90s this group has been even more special with their 2 runs

Special in which way? Special because it was a lot more unexpected? The Giants of the 80's and 90's were star studded. These Giants impress me because the yare less impressive as individuals.

I'd personally take a Coughlin and Simms as a combo then the given choices!

Well, being the David in the first one with a historical upset win and with the second one coming back from the dead essentially on Christmas Eve with each game being a specific kind of win readjusting to each opponent.

Plus the Pats were clearly the class of the league each time. That is an appropriate end opponent as opposed to the 86-90 Giants teams where the clearly best opponent would at the latest been the NFC Championship game with the 49ers.

This general comment about the Giants two super bowls not really impressing people reminds me of Chuck Klosterman saying, "They could win another Super Bowl and I swear looking back, I am pretty sure that each Giant team was not even the best team in their division."

These Giants teams are almost one of those mid-seed NHL teams that in the Stanley Cup playoffs find their grove and win the cup. Technically, a football team is not supposed to do this once, much less twice. I think that is why even if this team somehow makes another Super Bowl appearance, this team will be underrated.

I do not think the team was ever in either year a mid-seed in their ability. the Pats certainly were not the best team last year and the Giants man for man were a more talented team then the Pats with Brady of course being a the great equalizer. In both years the Giants were extremely talented but compared to the 80s/90s Giants to me at least they are dwarfed in talent. So being impressed with them as underdogs is more of an ESPN folktale than reality but they did have to overcome a lot to get there most of which was from their own fault which to me diminishes the achievement a bit.

Simms would like to have Eli's weapons.

Eli would like to have Simms defense.
