Jets have a TON of needs. They won't all be filled with the 10 picks, regardless of how much Mike T wants to play that number up, because most of those are in the back-end of the draft.

I just really want BPA at all spots. Whether thats Michael Floyd, David DeCastro, Whitney Merceilius, Melvin Ingram, Mark Barron, Trent Richardson ( :) ), etc, there are a ton of holes to fill and they didn't really fill any in FA.

IMO, Safety is no less of a need now than it was at the beginning of the offseason. Landry improves on what you had (some tough guys who make you think twice about going over the middle and can run stuff in the right situation) but didn't address the true "needs" of the secondary: coverage safeties and health. So while I liked his signing, he more or less improves on Eric Smith, rather than truly "filling a need".

Ditto goes for RB (Ground and Pound with Greene, McKnight, Powell? LOL), WR (Chaz and Turner currently battling for the number 2 receiver position, and I'm not even sure we have more than 5 camp bodies), OL (obviously RT, but both guards are FA's after 2012 and I wouldn't mind improving on Slauson and returning him to the Rob Turner role, where he really fits best), DE depth, OLB (obvi), ILB (need guys to help limit Bart's snaps/replace Bart), safety, CB depth, all specialists (Folk and Conley are perhaps the worst kicking tandem in the league). Saw someone note that Sparano likes to use his TE's to block, and there are currently 4 TE's on the roster: Keller, who has never thrown an effective block in his life, Baker, a true H-Back, Cumberland, who is a receiver in a TE's body, and the rugby guy. So yeah, that would be another need, I guess. I actually saw one of the beat guys say you could trade Keller to get another high pick: I like Keller, but if someone gives you a 1st rounder for him, I think you have to take that, especially if the position is being de-emphasized, given the current needs and the talent in this draft pool.

I'd take a 3rd for Keller. But I probably undervalue him. He's a good athlete, but his routes are suspect to me and his hands have failed him in big spots. Big, fast receiving TE's have become all the rage recently, and I see a bunch more in this draft. Keller's talents are not as scarce as we are made to believe. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that if Cumberland got a full season of starter's snaps, he could replicate Keller's production.

Yeah the Jets have a ton of holes. Like MJ said, they have 10 picks, but they are mostly late rounders. It'd be foolish to rely on those picks to produce. If one or two turn out to have talent, then you did good, but more than likely none amount to much.

Since I would be shocked if Laron Landry played more than 10 games, I hope safety is addressed for the long-term. Get Rex a play maker in center field, and he would really put the pressure on opposing offenses.

The offense is pretty pathetic. The Jets could use help at pretty much every position. I would draft a WR, but anything will help.

The defense is not in as bad of shape, but depth in the secondary and linebackers is an issue.

The buzz around the Jets is that Melvin Ingram will not get passed them. I'd be happy with that..

Rich Cimini has his 7 round "Jets Picks" mock up, and mocks the first 15 ahead of them in the 1st, and lets just say he pretty much predicts a grand slam. Unless for some reason 31 GMs are conspiring to do ol' Tanny a solid this year, don't see how this all breaks so perfectly for the Jets, but I would be ECSTATIC if the final product in any way resembles this haul:

http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/p ... mock-draft

1st: Melvin Ingram
2nd: Alshon Jeffery
3rd: George Iloka
5th: Robert Turbin
6th: Zebrie Sanders
6th: BJ Cunningham
6th: Omar Bolden
7th: Brandon Marshall (not that one)
7th: Markus Kuhn
7th: Jonas Gray

Must be some good ole herb if he thinks the draft is going to shape up like that.

If you think about it though, its almost impossible to guess anything past the first 3 rounds. There will be bottom first rounders who will fall to top of the third. I could see a team reach for a player in the 4th that has 6th written all over him. Giants got Austin and IMO he was a top 20 player. SO I guess I should give Rich some slack.

I highly doubt Turbin slides to the 5th.

I do like BJ Cunningham though. Always impressed me when I put a Spartan game on.

as a UNC Fan, the Jets just got a GREAT player. Lets hope Rex lets him play outside....not inside.

Good pick. Boom/bust type prospect. Have to love the measurements and times he put up. The motor was questioned during last year, but we will see if that continues under Rex.

I like it. We needed a pass rusher and we got one. He should also be able to play different positions and line up for all 3 downs. I actually read he was most productive when lined up over the guard position for UNC.

OL, WR, RB, and secondary help in the rest of the draft.

Its going to be very interesting watching Jones and Coples play in the AFC East.

I have a feeling WR Hill could be next (if he lasts to your next pick). Although Rex Ryan believes he has a Victor Cruz like player on his roster so maybe he sticks with defense. If I were the coach, I'd jump all over the top remaining tackle. That OL needs help in the worse way.

As far as Coples, his lack of fighting every down he plays will be solves by the Vets on the team and of course by the big guy REX! He will not last in this locker room if he doesnt go all out. If they max his effort out, hes got Pro Bowl written all over him. If the Jets do find a way to start playing more 4-3 than 3-4 hybrids, Coples should be on the outside ONLY! He played against guards before but he is better suited outside on a TE/OT! JMO

So with the underwhelming draft in the past now, the Jets make their first certified "Bravo" move of the offseason (in my unbiased opinion, anyway):

Approximately 90 seconds after he was officially cut by the Rams (in this year's David Akers-ish move of owing a kicker too much money and drafting his replacement to save cap room), Jets have signed K Josh Brown.

Brown was really no better than Folk LAST year, but has a long history of being much better than him. While noted for a strong leg (career 28/43 from beyond 50, compared to a paltry 10/20 for Folk), he has been a dome kicker his entire career, which bears watching.

I still don't expect this to be much of a competition. Next up: new punter.

Brown's numbers aren't nearly as good as I thought they would be. He actually had fewer touchbacks than Folk last year, and that's despite playing in a dome.

I'm sure one of the reasons Brown signed with the Jets so quickly is he probably is pretty confident he can win the job. This will be about as exciting as a kicker battle can be come training camp.
