I give it about a 99% chance this is a Elway/Denver leak while the contract folks are negotiating back and forth on the "snag".

Well the Jets have given the Broncos the power to draw any other sucker back in. Go Jacksonville!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, even Fireman Rich is getting on the Jets FO for this snafu.

Well I mean c'mon....it's a basic step in making a trade. This really confirms in my mind that this move was made becuase of publicity, PSL sales, Jersey sales, and the like. It had nothing to do with Tebow could or couldn't add to the team football wise.

Then wouldn't it have gone through anyway?

I think the trade was done because there is/was zero downside risk to it as it was originally presented. Low salary, low picks. When an additional $5m comes into play, too much for a "no risk" import, thats when it hits the snag.

You don't create a quarterback controversy by importing someone who isn't at least as good as the QB you've got.

And my point is there would have been a "Free Chad Henne" movement by week 3 if Sanchez didn't show improvement and get off to a good start, anyway. And I'll take Tebow on the roster over Henne - like I've said, at least Tebow does more than hold a clipboard.

If he does that, though (improve, good start, all that), the Tebow movement to be more than the gadget guy he was likely acquired to be would be stopped, too.

It could all be moot, but the problem with Tebow is that there are too many fans who won't wait until Week 3 to call for him.

It'll be the first time Sanchez has back-to-back 3-and-outs and the irony is that Tebow is the king of 3-and-outs. That's part of his mystique, how he can do absolutely nothing for 50 minutes, or more, and then suddenly produce a spectacular drive that pulls out a win.

Agree. If you take away "Tebomania" and all that comes with it it's not a bad move given the versatility he could provide.

But with so much invested in a seemingly sensitive QB do we really want a "Te-bow" chant after Mark throws his 2nd pick of the 1st quarter??

An All-Pro one though? Leon was before the injury...

Look, I'm not complaining as much on the pick they dealt (although I'd be happier if it were a lower one) but it almost kinda feels like the FO/Woody wants to "entertain", IE sell PSL's more than putting together a potential winner. Combine that with the potential QB controversy (and you may be right that it could be what Sanchez needs) and the fact that Tebow is just not a legit QB and I'm not too crazy about this.

This is supposed to be a big FA class. They couldn't have swung that 4th for a more important need and signed a Henne type?

Schefter says it is the Jets after all. Nice. Jets pay about half the $5M that was in the contract.

He is better than Drew Stanton, he can challenge Mark for the starter's spot, and if he loses out he can still have a role in the offense as a gadget. I see all good.

Even if this was all a Woody move for the jersey sales, PSL stuff, and whatever else, it is still a good football move as well.

Jersey sales, for sure, but is anyone really buying a PSL because Tim Tebow might play a handful of snaps each game? C'mon.

I'm kind of lukewarm on the trade. I kind of wish they just scrapped all the gadgets and just went with a conventional run-heavy play-action offense. On the other hand I like Tebow and can picture him going crazy on the sideline after stuffing the ball in the end zone in a crucial spot.

I'm curious what happens to Tebow now that he's in NYC and has to deal with all the pressures that come with it. I don't know much about the Broncos fans, but if you play terribly here, he's going to hear about it.

Really very curious to see how this move turns out.

Having had a day and a night to reflect, I have now taken more of a wait-and-see toward the whole thing.

I don't know how the coaches are going to deal with the human side of the inevitable controversy, but on reflection, maybe they can develop a package that makes the team harder to defend.

That's no small thing in a league where a handful of plays over the course of a season can tip the balance between making the playoffs and being an also-ran.
Ian O'Connor also made a point in his column that if Sanchez is hurt, you have a lot better chance to survive with Tebow than with Drew Stanton.

It's also a certainty that Tebow is a legitimate threat to challenge Sanchez for playing time.

If some of those anonymous detractors are accurate, maybe it will push Sanchez to work harder.
