BTW, and just to be fair, I love the end of our draft. I don't expect to find much in those rounds, and I think (at least) Ganaway, Allen and White could be immediate contributors. And thats good work there.

I wish they had done better work early on, though.

Nice.

Quote:
In a symbolic gesture, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed Rutgers defensive tackle Eric LeGrand, whose playing career was ended by a spinal cord injury, on Wednesday morning.

LeGrand played for Tampa Bay coach Greg Schiano at Rutgers. In a game Oct. 16, 2010, against Army, LeGrand suffered fractures of two vertebrae and a spinal cord injury.

Schiano called LeGrand's mother in New Jersey to let her know of his intention the night before breaking the news to his former player.

"I said, 'Are you serious? You want to do this?' He said: 'It's the least we could do,' " LeGrand said Wednesday during a conference call. "I said I don't even know what to say to you right now, coach. This is amazing.

"It's something I always dreamed about, go to the NFL and retire and become a sportscaster," LeGrand added. "Dreams do come true if you really believe. You do the right things in life, good things happen to you. He really just did this out of the kindness of his heart. It's really what he wanted to do. I had no idea this was going to happen."

Say what you want about how Schiano left Rutgets, but he has always seemed like a good coach, especially in regards to LeGrand. This is a great story.

Jason LaCanfora says the Jets and Steelers had a deal done where the Jets would move back to 22, Steelers up to 16. Steelers would've taken their man DeCastro there, and Jets had their eye on...wait for it....either Coples or BRUCE IRVIN. The Jets panicked when Seattle picked Irvin and backed out.

While I would have loved the extra pick(s) there, and wanted them desperately to trade down, Bruce Irvin would have sent me over the edge. So thank god for that.

Again, very late to the party. I blame the fact I totally forgot we had a football forum here, but these were my thoughts on the Jets' draft:

- I didn't like the Coples pick. I didn't *hate* it, but I just don't see him as a great fit in the Jets' defensive scheme and there are times where he just looked very sluggish last year. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I'm not all that optimistic here.

- I really liked the Stephen Hill pick. He's a physical specimen, helps address an area of need, and while he's a little boom-or-bust, I'm very much okay with taking a lottery ticket on his upside.

- Demario Davis and Antonio Allen look like very good value picks.

- Terrance Ganaway intrigues me a bit; he put up great numbers for a big guy and he looks like he can be a bruising, short-yardage option. Could be solid value here.

Overall, I might be inclined to say it's a little better than some of the grades it received, but not still not that good. I didn't like the Coples pick, the Bush pick was highly questionable, and as I mentioned in the other thread, sans popping a guard in the 6th round, I'm quite disappointed they didn't address the offensive line.
