Westhoff really talking up Malone today. Maybe this is a diamond in the rough thing. Still, in games, he's shown a worse leg than Conley. Just something to remember.

Also, this quote made no sense to me:

Conor Orr @ConorTOrr 9s
Westhoff said he spoke to Dan Marino this morning, said the way Dan was off the field reminded him of Tebow. #jets

Obviously the Marino we know today is very different, but when Marino was Tebow's age, wasn't he fighting the perception that he was a huge partier and even had a bit of a coke issue?

According to Rex, Sanchez is their starting QB, no question about it. According to Tanny, he's going to play 80 to 90% of the time. Uh....what starting QB in the league only takes 80% of the snaps? Answer....no one.

Assuming there's around 65 offensive snaps in a game, 80% would mean Tebow would be out there for 13 plays.

Which was the reason the Jets (and other teams) passed up in him. The coke issue/rumor was all over the place. (Btw, O'Brien if he had a better OL could have been VERY good, just still not in Marino's class). The Marino-O'Brien battles their first few years were EPIC. Absolute classics!!

But as far as I can remember there wasn't much talk of him partying after he came into the league.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

Marino quickly changed that perspective and was a force in the locker room and a team leader.

bringing this thread up causes me to make a significant Mea Culpa: Robert Malone has been the Jets Offensive MVP thus far.

Though to be fair, he still hasn't been very good relative to his peers. We just have a very low bar around here.

I still think it would be absolutely moronic to bring in "Tebow Time" to start games. Sanchez may not have played well, but a) the entire team sucked, and b) the 49ers make a lot of offenses looks bad-- let alone one without several key offensive playmakers.

Whether Sanchez sinks or swims, we need to see what we have with him. It takes some QBs time to finally have everything click. It would help if he could have Powell start, Keller in the lineup, and some reliability from the WRs. Ultimately, if Sanchez still fails this season, then we move on-- and we move on to someone not named Tim Tebow.

This sounds a lot like "We need to get Jason Bay 125 ABs".

We have a lot of data on Sanchez, and nothing is improving. Not sure why he needs to fail more and more to get the picture.

If the idea is that one day down the line it may all "click" for him (and I wonder what it is that needs to click, since again, someone has to tell me what he should be doing better than he is based on his skills), then thats a pretty generic and catch-all reason to keep trotting out a subpar player.

I mean, it may one day click for Vernon Ghoulston too - maybe we should resign him and playing him at OLB the rest of the year?
