I really hope Revis plays this week. Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown could (will?) have a field day with him out and the Steelers desperate not to go 0-2.

The statuses of James Harrison and Troy Polamalu seem up in the air for Pittsburgh. Hopefully they are inactive but I'm not holding my breath.

Harrison officially out.

We'll see on Polamalu.

I'm more worried on Brown - I think Cro has Wallace, one of the few people who athletically can hang with Wallace. I think Revis would spend most of his day on Brown, truth be told.

He's practicing today, btw.

The Jets signed Epps off the Bears' practice squad. I believe this means he must be kept on the 53-man roster for at least 4 weeks (maybe it's 3). This would seem to indicate the Jets expect Keller to be about for multiple weeks.

Revis is out, so is Keller.

Harrison's out, Polamalu's likely out.

I'm expecting a Jet loss. If they find a way to win this game.... watch out.

The Steelers not having Harrison and Polamalu is a much bigger loss than the Jets not having Revis. I'd argue that Harrison and Polamalu are the only real game-changers on that defense. Woodley and Timmons have really disappointed since their 2010 campaigns. Keller was a virtual nonfactor against Buffalo-- Cumberland filled in just fine.

I'd consider Pouha and Ryan Clark coming back as virtual washes-- the Jets have the upper hand going into this matchup. Big test for Wilson though-- he filled in admirably during Revis's absence in 2010 (we went 3-0 against NE, Mia, Buf).. can he do it again?

Meh, if Keller is back next week, not sure anyone's losing sleep off of waiving Konrad Reuland.

I figured it was more of an indictment of where Hayden Smith is - they chose to keep him around as a development project over Epps initially, but when the need arose for an active roster spot, they turned back to Epps.

Also, Mendenhall was just ruled out by a report in Pitt.

Wilson filled in TERRIBLY for Revis in 2010. It was last year when everyone was saying how improved he was, but he's not a pimple on Revis' fanny.

I don't think you can ever minimize losing someone who is the best at what they do in the world.

That said, I think Pitt's defense is a bit overrated anyway now based on reputation more than anything, and losing what may be their two best individual defensive players probably makes them even more so. I don't want to hear much Monday about the stout Pittsburgh D - the Jets SHOULD be able to move the ball on them on Sunday. We'll see if they can stop Big Ben from doing the same - underreported story last week was that there still was very little pass rush generated. And when Rex had to dial up overload blitzes like he's had to do to generate anything resembling pressure, Fitzpatrick actually enjoyed his only small successes.

Mendenhall was never expected to play anyway. Pittsburgh has been been shooting the bull with his "full" practice statuses. He won't be back for at least another few weeks.

The secondary worries me this game. Antonio Brown will have his way with Wilson and Heath Miller is a tougher TE to keep dibs on compared to Only-A-Redzone-Threat-Scott Chandler.

They were the #1 defense last year by both yards and points. In 2010, they were 2nd in yards, 1st in points. I would agree they are probably overrated entering 2012 due to age and injuries, but I don't think I would say they are thought of as a top tier defense because of just reputation; the proof is in the pudding over the two most recent seasons.

I forget exactly where it was, but much like people have pointed out with regards to the 2011 Jets defense, I think there was an article/study penned somewhere giving a lot of the credit to the gaudy Steeler numbers last year to their competition, and they were actually down in 2011 compared to 2010.

I'll try to find it. IIRC, they got the benefit of playing St. Louis with Kellen Clemens at QB, the benefit of 2 games vs. Cleveland, etc etc.

Now, not exactly a news flash that good defenses devour bad offenses, but I think with some strength of schedule adjustments, there was talk that they were trending downwards, and like you say above, thy are definitely getting old. I think I read it in regards to fantasy stuff, but it held true on the field as well.

I watch a ton of Steeler football living in Pittsburgh....the Steelers defense looks downright BAD when Troy doesn't play...

I also don't think the Steelers have the CB ability to contain Holmes and Hill (and Kerley) ... this should be a great opportunity for the Jets offense

This may surprisingly turn into a shootout.
