Either that or he works for a clueless twit who, apparently, is blind to all of Rex's shortcomings.

It's been tried twice before: LA doesn't support pro football.

The Raiders, yes, absolutely true but they knew they were part of an Al Davis power play from the get go. The Rams, they loved and supported until the team just got unbearable to watch due to terrible management. Most LA residents who were around during the Rams time believe that Georgia Frontiere is in the pits of hell for moving them. They still broadcast Rams games in LA last time I checked. St. Louis is not a bad football city either even as the Bidwells screwed them over but for a while it looked like Stan Kroenke was going to have the Rams return to LA.

For all the talk of Tom Gamble being the big catch, it appears the Jets really wanted Caldwell and now are expanding their search, so either Gamble turned them down, or they weren't impressed. We'll see if he gets a job elsewhere.

Now they are rumors it will just be internal candidate Cohen and I cannot think a bigger PR folly (and I feel really bad for Cohen for saying that).

Mike Pettine and DB coach Jim O'Neil have joined Doug Marrone's staff in Buffalo.

Jimmy Raye, head of player personnel with San Diego, did not get the GM position there and will be interviewed by the Jets.

Brian Gaine, head of player personnel with the Dolphins, is another candidate that will get interviewed.

I'm honestly not sure what to think of this search. It seems the Jets are waiting for a guys name to be out there, either from another interview or the national scribes pushing him, and then looking into him.

I find it odd that other than Cohen I don't think the Jets have been the first to any of these guys. Do Woody and his hired consultants just have no idea where to look and are relying on the rest of the league to tell him where the good candidates are?

Weren't they pretty proactive in interviewing Gamble?

Omar Khan gets an interview tomorrow.

Interesting. In Steeler land there has apparently been widespread speculation that when Bill Cowher returns to coaching, he is going to want Khan to be his GM. That type of arrangement would seem to be of the "I pick the players, you get them under contract" mold.

The Jets will interview ex-Bears general manager Jerry Angelo for the same position on Thursday.

Angelo was fired by the Bears last offseason after spending 11 seasons as the GM in Chicago. Poor drafting and questionable free agent signings led to his downfall. The Jets will also interview Steelers exec Omar Khan on Thursday as they restart the process to find Mike Tannenbaum's replacement.

Quote:
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports that the Jets will interview Seahawks VP of football administration John Idzik for their general manager vacancy on Friday.

Names are flying out of the woodwork regarding the GM opening in New York as the team regroups and looks for Mike Tannenbaum's successor. Idzik is in his sixth season with the Seahawks. According to the team website, he oversees player negotiations, the team's compliance with the salary cap, transactions, staff and team contracts, among other duties. Idzik entered the NFL in 1993 with the Bucs.

Now the search is opening up.

Not sure I'm with Idzik or Khan, two guys with very similar backgrounds and skills as Mr. T (i.e., not personnel), but why not give as many guys a look as possible since the obvious first round of "Lets talk to the guys that everyone else wants to talk to" obviously didn't bear any fruit.

I know his name is poison right now thanks to his most recent job, but I'd give Scott Pioli a look. You're probably not as good as you look when working for the Pats, but I also can't think you're as bad as look when working for the Chiefs.

I think it's clear Ryan has consolidated power: I wouldn't be surprised if this were the type of guy that Johnson hires. Ryan picks the players, the GM fits the guys Ryan picks under the cap.

Pioli is an interesting name. I'm not sure what level of responsibility he had for the Pats as Belichick has basically served as GM since he joined NE from the Jets. That and basically falling ass backwards into Brady. KC is a team rife with talent, but he had a few busts(Tyson Jackson at #3 OVR, Glenn Dorsey) but what got him fired was his HUGE miss with his handpicked guy for QB.

Yeah, I mean, its impossible to tell in football a lot of times who is doing what.

Pioli was at least given the title of being in charge of player personnel from 2000-2008, and the 3 years prior to that here (the Parcells days - but I assume Tuna was picking his guys).

Of course, there's no doubt he was the guy in KC and some personnel moves were questionable, and perhaps more importantly, his coaching hires were dreadful.

I dunno - but he was THE NAME a few years back, and he's a take-no-shit guy which, if we're going to bring in a guy to take the personnel reigns from Rex, it'll need to be that kind of guy.

I'm just not sure we need another salary cap specialist puppet for Rex to tell him he can coach anybody and just make it work - our last "specialist" did that to fit guys in 1 year at a time and its left us in a huge mess when it didn't immediately yield the rings Rex was promising.
