Time for a new thread, me thinks. Hopefully this one won't have the same stench as the previous one.

Quote:
Sources with "knowledge of the situation" tell CBS' Jason La Canfora, the Jets will be "hard-pressed" to re-sign impending free agents Dustin Keller and Shonn Greene.

The same is reportedly true of DE Mike DeVito. Former GM Mike Tannenbaum left the Jets in salary cap hell, so the news is hardly surprising. Retaining Keller is likely of far greater concern than Greene, but ESPN New York agrees with La Canfora's sources that he's likely on the way out. It's going to be a lean year for the Jets in 2013. Even though he's coming off an injury-prone and ineffective season, interest in the 28-year-old Keller should be strong on the open market.

Quote:
CBS' Jason La Canfora reports the Jets will "explore" Darrelle Revis' trade market.

According to La Canfora, owner Woody Johnson has "strong reservations" about the team's ability to extend Revis beyond the final year of his contract next season, and wants to "attempt to land value for Revis now, rather than risk losing him" in free agency. It's a sign the Jets are dead serious about rebuilding and addressing their cap issues, but it would be strange timing to trade Revis, as he's coming off a torn ACL. Selling low on your best player isn't recommended in any sport. However, a clause in Revis' contract bars the Jets from using the franchise tag, so the danger of losing him next winter is real. Even coming off a major knee injury, interest in Revis should be robust if he's truly made available.

Please don't trade Revis. He's as close to a franchise player as there can be on the defensive end.

I love Revis---I've been posting glowingly about him since before he blew up.

But I was shocked at how well the the Jets secondary did in his absence. Once Revis was hurt, I expected the Jets would have games where they'd have no answer for defending top receivers. My expectations were generally unfounded.

I'm not sure what I'd do about Revis, but moving him is not the crazy gamble it looked like a few months ago.

And that doesn't even begin to consider the long-term impact of his knee surgery.

This should be standard due diligence. You should always be assessing the market value of your assets. If some team is willing to blow you away with an offer, than you take it. If not, you carry on. This shouldn't be seen as a slight on Revis or Jets management-- even if you're a huge Revis fan.

Idzik's presser going on now. Nothing notable in there so far.

I don't think they'll trade Revis as it would be selling low off injury... but they can't keep both Cromartie and Revis. It makes no sense to pay two CB's a fourth of your cap when the team has gaping holes on both sides of the ball and not enough money to cover them.

What I think will happen is Revis plays out this year, Cromartie is traded after 2013 and they sign Revis long term.

No surprise that Francesa did nothing but pan it. One of his biggest critiques was that Idzik was lacking in specifics.

Someone should remind him that his boy, Mr T, could be standing next to the window and if a reporter asked him if the sun was shining, he wouldn't give a straight answer.

I was actually surprised at the number of Jets fans who called Francesa and told him he was being ridiculous expecting the press conference to be much different from what it was.

I turned him off right after the first few callers. I don't mind anyone killing the team but it just seems too personal with Francessa to take him seriously on the subject of the Jets.

I actually preferred espn radio mucking it up while playing the Te'o voicemails than listening to fatboy's hot air this afternoon.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

I only heard part of Francessa's critique, but he was right in saying that it sounds like buisiness as it has been in the past at Jet camp, meaning that Ryan will always get his way on who the Jets will pick in the draft. He also was spot on by saying that if the Jets trade Revis they better make a trade that is good for the ages. It's very rare, exception being the Herschel Walker trade, that the team that trades the superstar usually gets the worst of the deal.

He must have decided to end his silence today. Tannenbaum also gave a lengthy interview with Rich Cimini.

He takes full responsibility for the Tebow deal and says it grew out of talks with Rex about how difficult it was for Rex, as a defensive coach, to plan for a QB who could run (the discussions were more about defending a generic QB who could run as opposed to a specific QB like Tebow).
