Also, Rob Ryan to Rams as DC deal fell through.

Dennis Thurman is the Jets DC, but I believe they still have an opening for a linebackers coach, which Rob has done in the past.

He must have decided to end his silence today. Tannenbaum also gave a lengthy interview with Rich Cimini.

He takes full responsibility for the Tebow deal and says it grew out of talks with Rex about how difficult it was for Rex, as a defensive coach, to plan for a QB who could run (the discussions were more about defending a generic QB who could run as opposed to a specific QB like Tebow).

I'm sure it is true. But I can't help think about the Scorcese scene in Quiz Show (if you are familiar with the movie, )when he talks about Dan Enright...saying...

" Dan Enright wants a career in television. The public has a very short memory...but corporations? They never forget"

It was housecleaning day in Florham Park, as the Jets cut Bart Scott, Calvin Pace, Eric Smith, Anthony Smith, and Josh Baker.

Scott was announced separately after the other four, whose combined salary was almost equal to how much the Jets were over the cap. The Scott release puts the Jets about $6 mil under the cap, still not a lot of room.

Alex Smith off the board, to the Chiefs.

Matt Flynn or bust?

David Garrard reportedly worked out for the Jets today.

Please don't trade Revis, even for the 31st and 34th picks.

The NFL has set the 2013 salary cap at $123.9 million, up from $120.6 million in 2012.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport initially reported the cap would be $123 million flat, but ESPN's Chris Mortensen says after accounting for league revenues, it gets a $900,000 bump. It's not a major spike, but it gives teams a little more breathing room than we were expecting. It could be the difference in keeping a veteran or signing a free agent.

Rotoworld

Not sure if this difference was considered when estimating the Jets' cap room or not...

Holy eff bomb.

Schefter reports were moving close to a deal with 35 yr old Garrard. They want 5 QBs in camp, the talk yesterday was Quinn + one other FA.

Sanchez, McElroy, Garrard, Quinn and Simms? Thats quite a QB crop there.

Its almost like they're designing the only possible QB competition that Sanchez could win.

I wouldn't be too sure of that. Garrard was winning the QB competition with Tannehill last year until he got injured. How it would have ended up if he had stayed healhty the preseason who knows, but at the very worst if he has anything left in the tank, IMO he would be a viable alternative to Sanchez.
