The Jets have surrendered their 4th round pick to New Orleans in exchange for RB Chris Ivory. They are working on a long-term extension as we speak per Schefter.

I wonder if that run on RBs before their 3rd round pick solidified the thinking that Ivory had to be the move there. Perhaps they otherwise would have taken someone like Ball or Michael.

Some are calling overpay.

While it would've been NICE to get him for the rumored 5th, if drawing a line in the sand on 1 "middle round' means the difference between getting Ivory (a proven productive player in at least a bit role in the NFL) and not getting Ivory and taking [insert 4th rounder here], I "cave" every time. Bravo.

Still need people to catch Geno's throws, unfortunately. We have NO ONE.

Going a little out of the box here but what about Denard Robinson tomorrow?

Talk about athleticism. Of course, you can probably count on one hand the number of these "athletic college QBs who can't play pro QB and successfully change positions."

Recently, its Randall Cobb (kinda), Julian Edelman and Josh Cribbs? Brad Smith too I guess although he's never done much of anything on offense other than lining up at QB.

Matt Jones was supposed to be can't miss doing it and he missed, big time. Armani Edwards woof. Michael Robinson is a decent fullback but hardly game changing. Kerri Maier? Countless others never even get the chance to fail

Missing anyone?

Looking who's left skill position wise:

WR: Robinson mentioned above, Ace "Tavon Lite" Sanders, Quinton Patton all intrigue me (doubt any last to the 5th though)
TE: not much left

I wouldn't say we have no one. Holmes (I know probably for just one more year), Kerley, and Hill (who should only get better) are decent targets for now.

I still think the Jets will grab a TE with one of these 3 picks.

Dion Sims (Mich State) is probably the best TE still available, but he's more of a blocker.

Levine Toilolo (Stanford) and Ryan Otten (SJ State) are possibilities as pass catchers.

At WR, I kinda like Da'Rick Rogers from Tenn Tech. Ace Sanders would be a very poor man's Tavon Austin. Kenny Stills is a "name" guy from Oklahoma. Ryan Swope, he of the concussion issues, from A&M just some of the guys on the board.

As much as you guys want your playmakers on offense (at least we nabbed Ivory), I think safety is as glaring a hole as any on the roster. Right now you have Dawan Landry (who isn't exactly his brother) and umm, Josh Bush? Antonio Allen? as your starters. Granted, we likely won't be finding anyone much better than Allen or Bush in the 5th round (or later, obviously).

Any chance the Jets revisit some of the guys they cut for cap reasons?

Brandon Moore is still out there and still played pretty well in 2012. Also a good guy in the locker room by all accounts. Gonna need those in the tough times that are sure to come in 2013. Also could help keep Geno in one piece and let Winters ease into the NFL

Jets sign Peterman, a starting guard for the Lions previously.

Makes the 3rd rounder a little less justifiable if a reach on need- really wish we grabbed Bailey there now.

Ehh we can just put Geno is the shotgun and let him make people miss in the open field too I guess. Hill can't catch but he's used to stalk blocking. Resign Braylon too- no hands/separation anymore but downfield blocks with the best of them.

Jets finally cut Tebow.

Will be in the league long after Sanchez is merely a footnote, Trent Edwardsing his way into the occasional training camp, and another LOLJets bust.

Player for player deal in NFL (rare).

Jerry Hughes dealt to Buffalo for Kelvin Sheppard.

Hughes, if you recall, was connected to the Jets a lot ahead of the 2010 draft (Kyle Wilson) and has been something of a bust, settling in as more of an edge rush specialist.

Cimini:

File this under "transactions overshadowed by Tim Tebow's release."

The Jets announced the contract extension for newly-acquired RB Chris Ivory, who signed a three-year deal for about $10 million, as widely reported on Saturday. Ivory was acquired last Friday in a trade with the Saints, who received the Jets' fourth-round pick.

The team also formally announced the signing of free-agent G Stephen Peterman, who agreed to a one-year contract last week. The former Lion, a longtime starter, could end up starting at right guard.

The Jets also announced the signing of 15 undrafted free agents:

Troy Davis, LB, Central Florida

Mike Edwards, DB, Hawaii

Dalton Freeman, OL, Clemson

Trey Gilleo, OL, Northern Arizona

Roosevelt Holliday,DL, Eastern Illinois

Jake McDonough, DL, Iowa State

Rontez Miles, S, California (Pa.)

Spencer Nealy, DE, Texas A&M

Chris Pantale, TE, Boston College

Mark Popek, OL, South Florida

Zach Rogers, WR, Tennessee

Mike Shanahan, TE, Pitt

Ryan Spadola, WR, Lehigh

K.J. Stroud, WR, Bethune-Cookman

Antavious Wilson, WR, Marshall

MJ called for the bolded move in the draft thread

This made me laugh.

Here is the lead to ESPN New York's story of the release of Tebow:

Quote:
One year after bringing Tim Tebow to Broadway, creating a nationwide fascination that slowly evolved into controversy, the New York Jets on Monday made the long-anticipated move of releasing one of the NFL's most popular players.

The "fascination" with the story was almost 100 pct a creation of the ESPN hype machine.

They were also taking credit for Adam Shefter breaking the news of Tebow's release this morning, as if it was any kind of surprise.
