Chico, to be fair, I didn't "call for" that move - I just found it on an unofficial release of UDFA signings and commented on that I liked it. And its certainly a biased opinion.

New news: TE Evan Moore was released. He's just a receiving option, but we're short on those.

My mistake. I thought you were "calling" for the move since you follow BC. I didn't realize you already saw a list of signings.

Hey, I'd LOVE to take the scouting credit there, but unfortunately I can't.

I have no idea how the coaches view him but given the lack of TE on this roster (especially in line tight ends), have to think he has a good shot. NFL.com compared him to John Carlson.

On Tuesday the Jets cut CB Cliff Harris and DE Claude Davis after they had been arrested for possession of marijuana on Monday.

Was really hoping Cliff Harris would stay out of trouble and show some of that playmaking ability he showed at Oregon...

Talk is Coples will see a lot of pt at OLB next year. I would've thought a switch to a 4-3 was in the cards but maybe not. It's not as if we have a true base defense anyway, but our personnel is more suited for a 4 man front. Or we may run the ole 45 mostly and then bring out the sub-packages in passing situations.

...which is exactly what Rex said Coples WOULDN'T due when we drafted him as his ability to play standing up was questioned (and the comparisons to Gholston were ready to start).

Not that there is anything on the depth chart standing in his way, but this looks like an attempt to justify the obsession with drafting DL early the past few years.

If its successful, Rex is a genius (he got his pass rusher by essentially drafting an interior lineman). If not, I'm sure Rex will take the heat for having 5 years and never figuring out an edge rush answer.

The Jets don't really run a 3-4, they run a true hybrid defense. We will be able to rotate Wilk/Richardson/Coples in as 3-4 DE's, but ALSO have all 3 play as down linemen, and then of course, occasionally have Coples stand up on the outside. We really do have some insanely athletic studs up front, a bigger version of what the Giants have historically employed. Now I just hope Barnes and Demario Davis are up for the challenge to round out our front 7.

Biggest issue on defense is probably who starts at Safety. Dawan Landry is a capable starter, but can Bush or Allen really start at this point in their careers? Will Lowry be moved back there? What about 2nd round pick Jarrett or even super-sleeper Rontez Miles? Questions to be answered.

Who's Lowry?

Out of the box a bit here, but McKnight doesn't really have an offensive role. Rex loves talking up his defensive backfield ability. Why not give him some reps back there in camp?

Sorry, by Lowry I meant Kyle Wilson. And yes, McKnight might need to justify his roster spot-- KR alone won't be enough.

Gotcha.

Wilson hates contact and is prone to getting lost downfield - think hes a true nickel corner and nothing else. But you never know - Rex HAS talked up Aaron Berry, he likes Lankster and Darrin Walls was starting at times last year - thats too many backup CBs. So I could definitely see a switch to S for one or more (why not try Wilson, the best natural athlete, if you're switching one?)

We will be able to cover. We have Cro and Milliner. That's good for something.

I think it's smash mouth football next year. Heavy dose of Ivory mixed with we-bring-more-rushers-than-there-are-blockers style defense and a bit of Geno. It's Rex ball. We got some big uglies to carry it out.

Preach it Doyel.

A lot of the LOLJets stuff, they do to themselves, but the criticism of the Geno pick is hilarious. If they didn't address QB this offseason, everybody would be laughing at how terrible their QB situation is. They got the consensus (don't give me the MMQB'ing with people having it different now) top QB in this class, once considered a potential #1 pick, in the 2nd round.

Geno is going to be a stud. Book that.
