A lot of the LOLJets stuff, they do to themselves, but the criticism of the Geno pick is hilarious. If they didn't address QB this offseason, everybody would be laughing at how terrible their QB situation is. They got the consensus (don't give me the MMQB'ing with people having it different now) top QB in this class, once considered a potential #1 pick, in the 2nd round.
Geno is going to be a stud. Book that.
#TeamGeno
These stories are linked to in the article above, but just to bring attention to them and stop the other narratives:
I hope Geno is a stud. The criticism of the pick isn't unwarranted, however. They could have waited until next off-season to draft a QB of the future, but now will be precluded from doing so because you need to give Geno at least 3 to 4 years to see if he's "the one." I don't know much about next year's class but if there's 3 to 4 QB better than Geno then maybe that's a better move.

Why address a glaring and obvious need thats existed for a while now when you can push it off and waste another year with Sanchez and Geriatric Garrard?
Thats been the Mets MO for years now under their regime - I'm glad Idzik is showing signs of being a bit more proactive in his sport.

Idzik's track record suggests he'd have no problem drafting Bridgewater next year (if we happen to be in a position to do so).
So many things need to happen between now and then for this to be a realistic (and favorable) scenario that passing on Geno (in the second effing round!!!!!) FOR A CHANCE at it would have been the ultimate LOLJets moment:
- Anyone remember how Matt Barkeley was looked at last year 'round this time? How about frosh Landry Jones?
- Geno Smith until like 3 weeks ago was a consensus stud. Now he sucks and he's a prima donna. Got it. Amazing how that can happen in the offseason (in the same way Vernon Gholston can become a prime time player in the offseason I guess).
- How do we know when the Jets pick?
- Unless they're picking 1st, how do we know how desperate someone else is? By all accounts, they wanted Tavon Austin and they were in an appropriate spot to get him. Whoops.
Anytime a GM would justify not doing something now because of the chance for something later would be grounds for a dismissal from my team, if I were an owner.

Also: this.
Under the new CBA, the contract Geno will get will hardly be something burdensome. At least not nearly as burdensome as, say, drafting Geno while you owed Sanchez what he's owed.
Great pick, and those critical are going to look stoooopid real soon. Broadway Geno FTW.

I loved the Geno pick in the 2nd round. I'm just saying there are some legit arguments against it. I'd like to think Idzik would be willing to draft another QB in the first round next season if he thinks there's an upgrade to be had, but I'm not convinced he would. Which means it might be Geno or bust for the next 3-4 years for our QB position.

Free agent Josh Cribbs will visit the Jets. Cribbs visited the Raiders on Monday, leaving with a contract offer but not a deal. He'd be a bit of an odd fit in New York, as the Jets already have capable return men in Joe McKnight and Jeremy Kerley. Cribbs would imperil McKnight's roster spot if signed, and allow Kerley to focus on receiving.

RIP, George Sauer, Jr, great wide receiver for Super Bowl III Jets.
Don Maynard is in the Hall of Fame, but Sauer, who was a possession receiver before the term existed, was at least as important to the team as Maynard.
Sauer quit the NFL in his prime or he might have made the Hall, too

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet QB David Garrard told 2 players he no longer plans to be with the #Jets, per sources. Nothing official from team. Unclear if cut/retired
EDIT: @AdamSchein: Text from Garrard: "Having to call it quits. My knee is not holding up. Continuing to swell after practices." #nyj
So to recap, the 35 yr old who hasn't even made it to a roster in 2 years physically can't hold up in offseason practices. Not shocking at all, but what is is that this guy was *the* competition until Geno fell in the draft, and IIRC, people were VERY OK with that. Yikes.

J.P. Pelzman @JPPelzman News 12 New Jersey is reporting that #Jets RB Mike Goodson, signed in March, was arrested on drug possession and weapon charges last night.
Mike Goodson, we hardly knew ye.
Not sure how our offense will survive without the big signing of the offseason (from the bowels of the depth chart on those explosive Panthers and Raiders offenses) but McKnight has to be feeling good today.

Thank god for Ivory. Still sucks, though- was looking forward to 2 fresh faces in the run game.
