Notes from practice number 1, paraphrasing from various media outlets:

Aaron Berry tears his ACL, done for the year.

Chris Ivory didn't practice, Mike Goodson didn't show.

Sheldon Richardson with a sack on the fourth play.

Sanchez and Smith were both pretty good, neither turned it over.

Stephen Hill had a great catch on a deep ball from Geno. Kellen Winslow had 2 catches from Sanchez, one going for 30 yards, but was also stripped by Jaiquawn Jarrett.

The veterans Stephen Peterman and Willie Colon started up front, Antonio Allen started at safety.

Greg McElroy was the #3, Simms the #4.

Holmes refuses to say whether he expects to play AT ALL in 2013.

Worst Lisfranc injury ever?

I've heard players who had it say it's an injury that interferes with everything that elite receivers have to do to be elite receivers, with the exception of actually catching the ball.

That said, I thinlk there's a lot going on where he's trying to protect himself with an eye toward being healthy enough to get another contract after this one.

Also, early indications of improved team speed on defense and some of the younger guys up front coming of age, bode well.

I think if Rex has weapons on defense, he'll do a good job of maximizing their skills.

Clyde Gates has been a standout so far.

There have been a lot of positive reports about Geno Smith. I think he's going to win the QB job.

This is probably a symptom of having a guy like Clyde Gates be, what, your 2nd most pedigree'd receiver currently practicing?

Not totally Jets related, but as some may or may not know, Kevin Burkhardt is doing play-by-play for FOX NFL games now. Great SI feature on him here: http://mmqb.si.com/2013/07/31/kevin-burkhardt-fox/

Anyway, he's doing the Jets' Week 1 opener vs the Bucs, which is pretty cool, but it's also gonna be really weird hearing his voice doing football (I've never heard his work with the Cowboys).

Sanchez will start the preseason opener. I won't go crazy yet, but if he starts any regular season games, I will be at a loss.

He is so bad.

I think most of the Sanchize Backers have cried "Uncle" at this point, but just in case...

MJ, it really is mind blowing. Bat shoot crazy to think a guy is this bad and keeps getting a shot.

I never wanted Tebow to start because I thought he was good, I just knew he was better than Mark.

Quinton Coples is out 3-4 weeks with a hairline fracture in his ankle. Today is exactly three weeks before the first game of the season. If it takes him four weeks to recover, we won't see him until Week 3.
