Geno led a penalty-aided TD drive before throwing 2 early INTs.

Cromartie not out there, had been dealing with some leg problems.

Vlad Ducasse injured, replaced by rookie Brian Winters (not Stephen Peterman).

Welp. Nice flashes from Geno (TD drive, that deep throw to Hill) but 3 picks in through 1.5 quarters, yikes. Last two in particular were horrible.

Rex takes responsibility for playing Sanchez in garbage time and exposing him to an awful offensive line. He got walloped and left with a shoulder injury. Sounds bad.

Smith was lost out there. Pulled a Dan Orlovsky too.

Matt Sims should be our week 1 starter

Last night's game was just a complete mess. Geno did as poorly as he probably could have and while I don't like Sanchez at all, it was ridiculous that he was even in there. Who the hell puts in their possible (likely?) Week 1 starter in the middle of the 4th quarter behind a 2nd string offensive line?

Rex made himself look like a buffoon after the game too:

That was surely a low point in being a Jets fan. The play on the field was bad, but more importantly, the decision making was just inept and they looked terrible trying to explain it post game.

This is going to be a tough year.

Cuts today: Joe McKnight and Stephen Peterman the two surprises. McKnight's too much headache for such a marginal player but Peterman is a shock; Ducasse is going to be the starter.

I think the McKnight cut is noteworthy because he's been a very good kick returner.

But Peterman jumps out as another awful signing by Idzik. Peterman was all but handed a starting job and now he's cut after preseason game three. Put that one next to Goodson as a total waste of everyone's time.

By the way, where is the supposedly rabid NY sports press corps in finding out what the heck happened to Goodson?

Maybe a little less time making mountains out of molehills over who's completing passes in practice drills and getting more reps with the first team on a given day in Cortland and a little more time doing some real reporting.

I mean Goodson was supposed to be a key acquisition. He's a total no-show for a month. The brass hints that they expect him back, but with no further explanation. And these guys accept it all at face value and report it as such?

Add Braylon Edwards to the list of cuts.

I've always assumed Goodson was in rehab. For what? I don't know, but it fits with what's gone on with him. I could be dead wrong though. It's pretty surprising one of the sharks in the media couldn't get someone to leak it.

The Peterman cut isn't too surprising after he was demoted to the second string after the Jacksonville game. I'm not certain it won't be Brian Winters getting the start over Ducasse. Winters hasn't played much after suffering an ankle injury in the Green/White game, but is back healthy now.

McKnight has been successful on kickoffs, but he's just one of many who had been in Westhoff's system. Considering the lack of depth at RB and no other established kick return man on the roster, it's still a bit of a surprise. They must really have had enough of his issues.

Jets RB Mike Goodson, embroiled in legal issues this off-season, is expected to report to team in next 24 hours.

Well, that explains the timing of McKnight's release.

He played Saturday - nearly a whole game. I certainly have no expertise on line technique/effectiveness, but he seemed like he was getting pushed around.

I think the whole Rex/Sanchez injury thing was a tempest in a teapot.

The reason he shouldn't have been in there is that you know what you're getting with Sanchez. He is what he is. He still throws the stupid pick in the end zone, he still throws the pick to the defensive lineman... you don't need more tape on Sanchez.

It's clear the Jets have no starting caliber QB. Smith's not ready and might not ever be a starter, he hasn't been all that impressive and his release looks sloooooooooooow. Sanchez............... yeah. Matt Simms has played the best of any QB on the roster looking at things objectively.

Oh yeah, the RB's and WR corps are still bad.

This is going to be a long season.
