I hope we're at least mediocre for the rest of this season just so we don't fire Rex.

Where did Slauson even go?

Tells you a lot when we've gone through 2 guards this year, each high draft picks, and you find yourself wistfully wishing for Matt Slauson.

It is funny though how heading into last year's draft our needs were a QB, upgrades all around at the skills spots on offense, a guard and secondary help.

Going into this year's draft, our needs will seemingly be (short of big FA moves which are rare in the NFL): QB, WR, TE, guard, and secondary help.

So to everyone who asks about if my assessment of Idzik has changed, I think that speaks for itself.

Slauson's the Bears' starting LG. The last time PFF mentioned him in a free article he was getting praise heaped upon him for his run blocking. I guess that $815K he's playing for better spent elsewhere. Oops.

That's a naive way of interpreting that. I absolutely agree that this team should have boosted their pass catching skill players. We're trotting out people who couldn't make opening day rosters and asking them to start (Salas, Nelson, Cribbs, etc). It's pitiful.

But I can't other elements of Idzik's approach. Sheldon was a home run pick. Milliner is too soon to say...he should be coming into his own. I actually think the secondary would improve if Walls saw all of Cromartie's snaps.

I do think Ducasse needs to go back to LG...Ducasse was mediocre but made plays...Winters is just dreadful...absolutely dreadful.

It's kind of funny.

Idzik was looking pretty smart a few games into the season.

Now Milliner and Geno are looking very shaky to the point that you see them both wash out in a couple of years as huge busts.

And the fact that many of the backups have no business being in the NFL is coming to the fore every week.

I guess there's a lesson in there for we fans who react to the short-term changes in fortune.

Can someone explain to me why Walls doesn't get more playing time? Sometimes I think he's the only competent CB on the roster right now.

Ducasse needs to start over Winters, enough of this Winters

Milliner is bad right now, horrible even. But I wont declare him a bust until he's at least had a training camp under his belt.

This commitment to Ed Reed is sickening to me-- the dude is finished

Guilty as charged. Where I gave Sandy a break until this year, Idzik has until next year to address this mess. They should have plenty of cap space to add free agents, and he has to put together a better draft. He will have had a full season to evaluate who goes and who stays. He had better get some real talent on the field because no QB in this league could make do with such few offensive weapons.

Luckily, they'll have a ton of picks as well as cap space. They're due comp picks for losing free agents this past year and while it's a near lock Santonio is gone, Cromartie and his 8.5 mil could also be cut.

Questions now IMO are how likely Rex is out- depending on how the season ends, and are they drafting a QB in the mid rounds, in the 2nd or with their 1st.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

You know i'm past the point of caring if Rex gets fired or stays. He'll get a job somewhere as a defensive coordinator. But even Tom Landry in his prime couldn't coach this team successfully.
