Goodson suspended 4 games by the NFL.

Hayden Smith released.

Ducasse officially announced as starter. Oh man, that is just not ideal at all.

I still think Sanchez has cold sweats at night emanating from the beating he took at the hands of the Ravens D Line that game that we decided to get Vlad some reps.

Jets signed Dan Carpenter and released Billy Cundiff. Hoping he beats out Folk, he's better than him.

Kickalicious was released today by the Lions.

Cut Folk and Carpenter and bring this stud in.

I never saw anything about Ducasse officially being announced, but considering he started the NYG game it can probably be inferred.

Jets agreed to terms with QB Graham Harrell, formerly of the Packers.
It's entirely unclear why, as even if Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith don't play in Thursday's preseason finale, the Jets still have Greg McElroy and Matt Simms to soak up reps. Alas, the Jets. Perhaps the perpetually banged up McElroy won't play. He's dealing with an ankle injury. Either way, Harrell has zero chance at a roster spot. He was uniquely bad for the Packers this summer.

Every time I sense some glimmer of hope, I think again and realize you simply can't get away with doing some of the things they're going to try to do.

Ducasse isn't going to suddenly go from bust to solid NFL starter just because they want him to. And that will be huge, because you can have Pro Bowl players on either side of him and he can still be responsible for a play blowing up.

The same holds true for other positions. It appears that they've upgraded, at least athletically, on the front 7 and some of those young guys even have a chance to step up to Pro Bowl level.

But Milliner, even if he turns out to be really good, is likely to make mistakes just because he's a rookie (and from what I'm hearing, he's not showing a whole lot).

Safety is going to be huge. The two guys last year had real good seasons. They simply won't be replaced.

I pretty much agree with everything you said, Chico.

The one thing about Ducasse that's mildly interesting is that Idzik would have no motivation to "want" him to start. If anything, he would have forced his FA, Stephen Peterman, or his 3rd round pick, Brian Winters, into action. The fact that Ducasse beat out Peterman is probably more of an indictment on Peterman than anything Ducasse has done.

I only read the ReFo recaps on PFF, but they had Winters grading out as a -2.9 in run blocking in the NYG game. Of course, we know Ducasse has been a turnstile in pass protection whenever he's been on the field. I have a feeling Ducasse will eventually cede duties to Winters at some point in the regular season.

I like to read these as well, PFF does a great job. It's always interesting to compare the numbers versus what you see. I was really impressed by Damon Harrison on Saturday, so it's cool to see the numbers reflect that (+2.3) despite a limited amount of snaps.

I like PFF because they're in love with Mo Wilkerson.

Not sure if you read Grantland, but the football crew over there is top notch: Bill Barnwell, Robert Mays, and Chris Brown (from SmartFootball). I really enjoy their stuff.

Anyway, you just made me think of that because they love Wilkerson too. Barnwell had him as an honorable mention in his top trade value series and Mays had him on his All-22 team (see here: http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-trian ... ersatility).
