whats funny here is I had written about the comp% and expected that excuse to come into play but decided to not bring it up
despite that (and his career comp%), I believe ELI can run the system Payton runs. ELI has shown he can be a very accurate QB; by evidence that he is great at timing routes and is quite good with the hurry up; two things that would require quick and accurate throws. Ive seen enough of ELI to know he can make every throw (to a lesser extent, when hes on the run or when hes throwing left handed
My only concern here is the personnel. Do we have the TE/WR to play that style of offense; as it requires large sized mismatches to be moved around in the Y position? What about the multi dimensional RB whos also used in mismatches? We have neither; technically the Black unicorn could have been that TE for us and a younger Bradshaw could have filled that position, sadly however we have neither of them.
A TC coached team, no matter who the OC is, will need to be one that focuses a lot on the run and protection from the RB; which will make getting that RB much harder. Basically, we need a RB who can be similar to McCluster/Sproles but who can run and block like Bradshaw (do they even exist?). Thats the concern here.
Despite that, Id still go ahead and bring in a guy like Lombardi to be our new OC and find a way to build that type of team through FA/Trades/Draft; despite the difficulty, it can be done, it will just require a lot of wheeling and dealing.
with that said, thank god Im not the GM, thats going to take many......many all nighters.
Also, as much as I love Nicks, trading him to a team like the Falcons (who might actually give you a 1st rounder, MAYBE!) before the deadline, isnt a bad thing. Giants are not resigning Nicks so Trade him (even if just for a 3rd rounder) before he leaves.
In the offseason, release Tuck/Rolle and bring in another Vet LB who can help command this team (not sure what Beason health is, havent bothered checking, yet)
Find a way to bring in a guy like Thomas (via Trade, if he isnt released in the offseason)
People like to talk about johnny manziel aka johnny football (and rightfully so, hes a much better QB than Tebow with better RB skills as well) but no one mentions the WR that helps him out, Mike Evans. He has that type of Mismatch WR written all over him and hes got some speed, great hands and is physical (like a RB). Id look to trade out of (what looks like a top 5 pick for the Giants) for a lower 1st to get a guy like him and in the process, add some more picks that year. He'd have to declare for the draft after this year (which while rare, could still happen)
If we get a guy like Evans and Thomas, then the Giants would have filled two holes. Granted, Thomas isnt exactly McCluster/Sproles but he should be close enough without sacrificing in the run game and blocking on 3rd downs.
Now what about Cruz? Isnt he the Y receiver? Well, theres no reason why he cant be both the slot and the X. Hes shown he can play with the big boys lining outside. After all, Paytons scheme focuses on using motion as well to cause some of those mismatches. We could always motion him to the inside (depending on the formation)
The Giants would still need another WR (since we just traded Nicks). Jebus, this GM'ing is hard
okay, thats all for now. I'll figure out how to fix the Giants holes later. Then again, whats the point, Giants aint payin me to do this
