Time for a new thread.

Most coaches are back. Ben Kotwica left to be the Redskins' ST coach. The Jets hired Thomas McGaughey, formerly with LSU, to replace him.

Here are their FAs (already re-signed QB Matt Simms and LB Jermaine Cunningham):

QB - David Garrard
FB - Lex Hilliard
TE - Kellen Winslow, Jeff Cumberland
WR - Josh Cribbs
OG - Willie Colon, Vlad Ducasse
OT - Austin Howard
CB - Aaron Berry, Ellis Lankster
DT - Leger Douzable
LB - Calvin Pace, Josh Mauga
S - Ed Reed
K - Nick Folk
KR - Darius Reynaud

Also, Nick Bellore, Garrett McIntyre, Darrin Walls and Isaiah Trufant are restricted free agents. There aren't very many free agents that I'll be eager to see re-signed.

Lots of talk about WRs the past couple of days.

Mel Kiper's mock has the Jets taking WR Marqise Lee, while McShay has them taking WR Brandin Cooks (Oregon State), with Watkins, Lee and Evans all off the board by #18.

Manish Mehta reports today the Jets covet Emmanuel Sanders and Jeremy Maclin. (Link)

Previously, there was a report that the Jets were hoping either Oday Aboushi or Will Campbell would be ready to assume a starting role at guard next season. Both were inactive for all 16 games this season.

I assume we're talking about a long term extension with David Garrard? What a signing.

Howard should definitely be back. I'd really like to bring back Folk and Douzable too, in addition to Pace, Colon, Cumberland, and Reed for the right price/role.

Still have over a month before we know of the comp picks coming our way.

Guess work with this is difficult. Keller didn't play which I think hurts us a bit but we may still be talking about 3-4 comp picks between the 5th and 7th rounds. Also, the TB 3rd rounder which could also become a 4th if they decide to cut Revis by April.

I could see the Jets going with a WR/TE tandem with the first 2 picks, or 2 of the first 3 picks. But I really hope they grab another QB somewhere in the 3-5 range. OLB and a DB or 2 could come in that range or in FA. But I really hope they add another (developmental) QB as well as a vet.

This QB class is not what it was cracked up to be a year ago but there are still many intriguing prospects and the Jets should have more picks than most teams this May.

Yeah, and if you're using the "He's 19" logic, then I guess the best report a scout could give us is:

"I have no idea. He's a teenager. He may go through 5 arm surgeries between now and his 30th birthday. He may add a pitch. He may lose a pitch. He may put on 30 lbs and add velocity. He may put on 50 lbs and eat his way out of the league. I literally have no idea what he is going to be."

But thats not what these guys are paid to do, nor what we are looking for them to do, right?

There's a chance that Landry might net a 4th. That pick will be a 5th at worst.

dang,TB looking to deal Revis which would drop the pick into the 4th round. I think the deal was that he had to be a member of the Bucs on March 13th for the pick to be a 3rd.

That would be great but going off memory most comp picks are usually 5th rounders at best. Would love a 4th (as well as a few others in the 5th-7th) but I REALLY want that early 3rd from TB.

Eagles re-sign Maclin before he can hit the market.

Jets slap the franchise tag on Folk, but the parties can still work towards a multi-year deal. It just guarantees he'll be staying in NY.

That Maclin news hurts.

It wouldn't be a surprise if there's a clause in the trade agreement that we still get the 3rd if he is traded rather than released.

Unlikely target with Kerley here, but I think he'd be a great, cheap little signing:

Albert Breer @AlbertBreer
Bengals slot Andrew Hawkins was given the low tender ($1.4M), so any signing team would get him w/o draft pick comp. Could be enticing.

Considering Holmes is going to get cut, seems like Hill might too (I would), Nelson is a FA...the current receiving group (including TEs) might be Kerley, Salas, Sudfeld and Reuland, right?

Everyone expects the first rounder will be a WR or TE, so add that person to the mix. And I expect them to be in on a guy like Decker. But even with those guys, there's definitely room for a guy like Baby Hawk.

The Jets actually signed Nelson to a 2-year deal when they took him off the scrap heap last fall. He's under contract for a non-guaranteed $645K for 2014 (as are Salas and our friend, Clyde Gates, for that matter.)

But yeah, that leaves us with a slot receiver and, perhaps, a #4 WR. The NYDN has been on the Emmanuel Sanders train this winter. I think they'll sign one FA and draft a WR with one of their first two picks. I could see Decker being overpaid since he's coming off a year playing with Peyton Manning. Could the Idzik-Seattle connection bring Golden Tate?

As for Hawkins, nice little player, but I don't see it with Kerley being in the fold.

Also, watch the Jets troll everybody and draft a CB at #18. Word is Darqueze Dennard and Justin Gilbert would both be more than deserving at that spot. With Cro potentially gone (or at least restructured, but getting on in years nonetheless) and Milliner no sure thing, I could definitely see it, especially if they sign 2 FA WRs.
