I hope we trade into the back end of the 1st round just to make sure we definitely grab a d-lineman and a CB in the 1st. Would be hilarious.

I really don't think there's any way we don't address skill early and often this draft, but yeah, never say never with Rex.

Interesting on Nelson, btw. He'll be back at that price. I like him a lot for what he is - I advocated bringing him in prior to last season before he went to Browns camp. Salas is another guy fine as a 5th or 6th WR, but not a priority. I'd keep him over Hill though in a roster crunch, despite the obvious physical tool differences. Gates I had put out of sight, out of mind but 'bah gawd' if he breaks camp on this roster next year, I'll scream. He is just dreadful. I don't think we need to rehash that again.

The Jets take a flyer on slot CB Johnny Patrick, claiming him off waivers from SD. Former 3rd rd pick hasn't put it together. He suffered 3 concussions last season before ending up on IR with an ankle injury.

Busy day for reserve CBs.

Jets also re-sign Ellis Lankster (reported 2 years, $1.63M contract) and Darrin Walls (undisclosed).

Lankster was set to be a UFA and is a key special teamer. Walls was going to be an RFA.

Cromartie has been cut.

Sounds like we have a very strong chance of landing Alterraun Verner.

Jets going hard after Vontae Davis and interested in James Jones as well.

Also, Bucs expected to cut Revis before Wednesday. Bring him home!!!! We have the cap room to bring in Vontae Davis and Revis, plus a WR or two. Do it!

The Bucs trading or cutting Revis means the Jets will only receive the TB 4th round pick instead of their 3rd round pick. That's a bit of a bummer, but goes to show you TB really ended up on the wrong side of the deal.

Holmes officially cut, btw.

Jets have been linked to a lot of players. Hopefully they can land a top CB, a solid safety and one of the better WRs out there. They also need to re-sign Austin Howard.

No surprise, the Jets cut Holmes.

One of my least favorite players of all time among the teams I care about.

I admit I loved what he did when he first came over, but it didn't take long for the warts to show once he secured the big contract.

That may certainly be, but still don't think that means the Jets ended up on the "right" side of it.

Dealing the best player in franchise history for Dee Miliner and whoever we get in the 4th round this year because of a salary dispute is never gonna be a good thing. It just so happens that Tampa looks worse, having given up picks and money to have Revis on board for one terrible year, franchise-wise.

I think we took Sheldon Richardson with the Bucs pick (could be mistaken).

This is not to take anything away from Revis. He was the best player the Jets ever had (and I've seen them all).

But I bet if you got him to speak truthfully, playing for Rex gave him an extra chance to display his talent to the fullest.

It's one of those things that happens when talent and financial rewards are available.

It's kind of like the great musical performer who decides to go solo and is never quite as good as they were as part of a great group.

There are certainly exceptions, but I think there are more times when something gets lost.

Players are flying as free agency began at 4 ET this afternoon.

The Jets have yet to sign anyone, though they did iron out a 4-year extension with Nick Folk.

Vontae Davis re-ups with the Colts, 4 years, $39M. He's basically the only guy the Jets have been linked to who has signed anywhere.

The Jets and Austin Howard couldn't agree to a deal, so he's now a UFA and is visiting the Raiders.

The Jets are said to be interested in Vick, and are set to get a visit from McCown. The problem is McCown will first visit the Bucs and Texans and isn't likely to make it to NY. I'm not really on the McCown bandwagon anyway.

MJ's guy Andrew Hawkins signed a 4-year offer sheet with the Browns. The Bengals have 10 days to decide whether to match or not. The Browns also bolstered their secondary with the signing of Donte Whitner.

No WRs of note have come off the board, though Golden Tate will visit the Lions. I wouldn't mind the Jets pairing Emmanuel Sanders with, say, Odell Beckham Jr. or whoever you want to give them at #18 overall.
