The Jets hosted Dimitri Patterson, who actually had 4 INTs in 6 games last year, Jacoby Ford and G Rich Ohrnberger yesterday.

Well, when you don't have any money left, these are the bins you have to shop in...

Oh wait, that was weird, I was having an April 2013 flashback.

Cimini rightfully kills the Dimitri Patterson signing, who cost just $500K less than Cro. And, counts 3.5m less against the cap than Revis, $500K less against the cap than DRC.

Ugh. Still leading the league in unused cap space. Presume they give out a trophy for that?

There's actually a clause in the CBA that requires all teams to spend 89% of their cap space over a four-year period. This is the second year of the four-year period.

As for the signing, there's nothing not to like about it on its own. Patterson was an effective player in the 6 games he played before going down. I think I read he played mainly outside last season, but has significant experience in the slot.

Idzik must really not have wanted Cromartie back. And as for Revis, yeah his cap number is only $7M, but that's because the Pats had to create a second year in the deal to fit him under the cap. As it stands now, they'll have $5M in dead money on the ledger next season as a result.

The Jets also signed a pint-sized speedster CB named Jeremy Reeves to a 3-year (non-guaranteed) contract last week. He was draft-eligible out of Iowa State last year but tore his pec in March and went undrafted and nobody signed him. He showed up at the Iowa State pro day the other day and blew everything up. 4.29 40 and ridiculous 43" vertical and 11 and a half foot broad jump. The Jets signed him a couple days later.

There's plenty not to like about this signing. You paid him enough to ensure he's got a significant role, and the guy has missed 33 games over the last 3 years. Plus, he's 31 - its not like we got "younger" with this cost-saving move.

All the offseason CB activity ensures is that we're going to use yet another high pick on one this year.

The clause is actually that teams spend 89% of their chas over a four-period. This means signing bonuses count entirely for the year that it was received, not prorated over x # of years. That works the other way too, obviously. Even though we used basically all of our cap room last year, around 25% of that was cash that was paid out in previous league years.

While it wouldn't make much sense for a team not to reach the cap floor, unless they are unable to because of large bonuses handed out in previous years, you don't exactly get the death penalty for not doing so. All that happens is that the money you "saved" by being under the floor is divided amongst the players you have under contract.

The need/desire to reach this floor should encourage Idzik to get our young core locked up during this 4-year window, even if they aren't scheduled to hit free agency for another year or two.

Chris Johnson is going to be released today. Jets most speculated landing spot. Lets see if Idzik closes this one quickly or slowplays it too.

Bills just traded a 6th for WR Mike Williams after missing on DeSean.

Well if the Jets weren't in on Jackson, they sure weren't going to be in on Williams. Besides Doug Marrone was his coach at Syracuse

...who kicked him off his team, IIRC. Odd fit.

Very strange that Marrone would want Williams back.

CJ would definitely be an upgrade on Powell as the change-of-pace/passing down back. Rumbling that the Giants and Cowboys are also interested. He'll go wherever the most money is, but he'd probably have the chance for the most playing time with the Giants.
