Ryan Pace, not Chris Ballard, gets the Chicago GM job.

Despite his demons, I really wanted the Jets to try and sign Scot McCloughan. It's a bit unfortunate that he will be making a selection directly before the Jets in the upcoming draft (barring a trade up).

FOXSports senior NFL reporter Alex Marvez said he believes Dan Quinn will ultimately be hired as the Jets head coach, according to people he’s spoken to.

Quinn, currently the Seahawks defensive coordinator, is one of the six men confirmed to have interviewed for the Jets coaching vacancy.

I approve. He sounds almost like Rex Jr in the fact that they are saying he needs to be teamed with a good O.C.

Whoops. So he actually predates this guy calling the final shot, albeit he was still heavily involved in the scouting side of things at that point in the org.

According to Dane Brugler, two picks that Maccagnan was the lead man for were Glover Quin and DeAndre Hopkins. I'd consider both of those picks to be home run selections.

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet
When Rex Ryan is asked who his offensive coordinator will be as HC, 1 of his strongest pitches includes Marc Trestman. They want to pair up.

Welp, thats pretty much better than anything else available out there. Its really a shame we railroaded Rex with the whole Idzik fiasco. Agreed he had to go, and we needed a reboot, but thats really almost solely on the Idzik mistake. A better hire 2 years ago, we're in better shape personnel wise and maybe we land Trestman to run our offense next year.

Oh well. Quinn/Shanny Jr. would be a nice consolation prize. If that duo ends up in Buffalo, though, that'd be a reallllllllly bad turn of events. I'm hoping for Atlanta, my 2nd NFL team (Matty Ice 4 life).

Agreed, but its also cherry picking a bit. He was in charge of the draft; he's responsible for all the picks, good or bad.

I'm coming around on him, and starting to think if he comes in, Casserly maybe stays on in some sort of supervisory role which would be really nice to bring in some clout like that. Add in Quinn's want to have Mark Dominik in here to run the contracts side of things (which would be a big issue if we hire Maccagnan considering his lack of experience there) and that could be a home run group.

It's not just Idzik. How many HCs get a 4th OC (with the first 3 all being fired for poor performance)?

Regardless of who our GM was the past two years, it would have been hard to see Rex outlive Mornhinweg in NY.

When you're as hands off on the offense as Rex is, and your units struggle as consistently as his did, and you are given the group of coordinators he was, I don't see the problem.

I think we can all agree Rex is a pretty good coach, and a great defensive mind. Nobody would argue anything remotely approaching competency for Schotty and Sparano. Marty I was optimistic for, but that was an arranged marriage that quite simply did not work. And if I had to place the blame on Rex or the guy that once deferred the kickoff in sudden death overtime...well, I know where I'm going.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh crap.

Schefty and Rappaport say Rex will be the Bills HC. They've offered.

Welp, this is a shame. Good for Rex though. First HC'ing hire, and for a team that didn't even expect to have a need. I think that pretty much validates where Rex stands as a coach.

Assume Idzik's next job is right around the corner too.
