Bowles, Quinn and McDermott all sound nice, but looks like we're going for Rex Jr. a bit. I'm really shocked we're not more in on the offensive candidates. Albeit, getting a strong coordinator there would be fine too (wonder if Bowles brings Harold Goodwin to run the offense, who is an Arians disciple?).

Fox would definitely bring a bit more clout, albeit with the same conservative offense, strong defense mindset.

Fox already turned down an interview request. Gase is rumored to take over the Broncos, Kubiak turned down the Jets request to interview, I want no part of Marrone, and they don't seem to have interest in Bevell. Seems like there are a lot more defensive than offensive coaches worthwhile looking at.

I could see Rex's career trajectory with the Bills following his path with the Jets pretty closely. Initially, I'd expect him to give the players and franchise a bit of a lift - and he'll undoubtedly love working with that defense - but I expect his inability to identify and develop young offensive talent to ultimately doom him there as it did with the Jets.

And the Jets search has been kind of depressing - lots of declined interviews from GM/HC candidates. Quinn seems like a 'safe' bet, but wasn't Gus Bradley in Seattle when most of that defense arrived? It's not like he's done anything in Jacksonville...

Just for the record, the Fox report has been refuted. And Gase likely is not taking over Denver, for the record.

Yes I saw the report after I posted regarding Fox, but I know Gase is still in the running for Denver but they may not get a chance at him.because of the Niners strong interest. Anyway, it really doesn't change my opinion that there are few offensive candidates to choose from as opposed to defensive candidates

Reich, Gase, McDaniels appear to be the big 3 of O-Coordinators.

McDaniels may be gunning for that Atlanta job, though.

Gase will end up in either SF or Denver. McDaniels is the heavy favorite to land the Atlanta gig. Not sold on Reich.

Jets are apparently trying to make sure they get Kyle Shanahan with whichever DC-turned-HC they bring on board. I like that.

All reports are that Denver wants to start fresh. Somebody even said this morning they're hoping he gets SF so they don't have to explain why they passed him over. Either way, we're not interested, so doesn't matter. I was merely responding to the post that said all the candidates out there were defensive minded.

That doesn't even count the Shanahans, Tom Cable, technically-a-FA Jason Garrett, etc. I'm not criticizing, I'm just saying I'm a bit surprised we fired Rex to bring in someone who will likely have a DL-turned-DC background.

I don't think you can possibly get a better defensive coach than Rex. I still think if they make a better GM hire 2 years ago, we're trying to pair Rex with Shanny or Trestman right now, especially considering where this HC search had led us. That said, as I have noted, understand the reasoning behind clearing house given the run we're coming off of now.

BTW, reports from ESPN yesterday that Idzik has "ruined it" for all supposed "cap-ologists" trying to make the move to GM. Noted that almost nobody without a strong personnel background was looked at this offseason.

Quote:
Capped out: In recent years, teams seemed willing to hire cap specialists as their general manager, as opposed to executives with personnel backgrounds. In 2013, the Jets went in that direction, hiring John Idzik. Obviously, that didn't work out too well. This offseason, the candidates across the league are football guys, not capologists. Said one former general manager: "Idzik ruined it for all cap guys." Well, maybe not everbody; there's Tannenbaum, although he's not the Dolphins' GM.

I'd look at Reich as a potential O.C. , not sold on him as Head Coach material yet either.

Maccagnan is in as GM.

Interview with McDermott cancelled tho. Speculation it could mean they've settled on Bowles? or Quinn?

And it is Todd Bowles. I'm good with this. Now let's sign Frank Reich for O.C.

Chan Gailey apparently the front runner for OC. This doesn't thrill me, but he definitely has the experience.
